ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

i'm a frequent sarocker. no band, some karoake, just enjoy it. looking at the gig announcements, it's always C5 or alter ego. while good bands, i started to wondr if anyone still visits this site? There used to be some good stuff on this forum. Plus the blog is the same old powerpoint stale flyers too. so, as an anonymous fan, I thought I'd ask: WHO STILL COMES HERE? sound off! I want to know i'm coming to a happening local site or should i swith to my space.

To: Anonimus Noguts

You stated that you are a frequenter of this site? Perhaps you have not been reading Rowan's messages. She is struggling with the time and the financial means it takes to keep this site running. She has asked for others to contrubute and your response is: "the blog is the same old power point stale flyers too". Wow!! I'm going to stop here, because I'm pissed. I find your comments offensive. Start a blog, others will follow, contribute to the local music scene, and see what comes up. Just a thought.

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

Nah, it's cool. It's true that the site isn't as full of stuff as it was when I had a few hours to kill every night. I wish I still had time to keep it up like that. Hopefully, sometime soon, I will again. Definitely I should be able to in the summer. And maybe next school year won't be quite as busy!

Just out of curiosity, why not switch to a VB forum format?

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

I guess you haven't seen some of the newer bands ie: Edge of Grace, Exit Stage Left, Third Eye, Lavish Luck, Los Romantix, to name a few, not to mention some new clubs etc.

I don't find any of the flyers or things that we post 'stale'.

With new clips of gigs and such, the blog is as fresh as ever, to me anyway.

If you want to start a thread, go for it!

I'll check the hits and let you know if you'd like because they're still on the rise, thanks very much.

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

Lemme back up.

Those who wanna raise their hands and say "Here!", cool.

We've just recently salvaged this sight and are in the process of updating.

So original poster, any bright ideas (anyone for that matter), on what you'd like to see in the process?

Is it just the fact that you don't like powerpoint flyers? Bands DO put a lot of work into those.

Is it that the forum has been kinda quiet?

LMAO oh trust me it can become VERY active again, or is it that the format isn't to your liking, prefer Vb?

If you don't like something, be productive and provide some positive criticism/suggestions or don't waste my time because I've worked my ASS off on this.

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

I'm still here, and I visit SARocks everyday. I still manage to learn things. We (Papa Wood & Third Eye) don't always get our fliers sent in to post, but I do post our gigs on the schedule.

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

I still visit everyday. I was disappointed with the schedule before and said as much, but I realized that Rowan and Kelly can only do so much (and that's usually a lot). This is still one of my favorite sites. And my band is called Slurly. Kelly just heard our music earlier this week. Thanks again Kel!

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

Anon -- You do bring up some valid points, and thank you for the compliment! At least you didn't say we sucked or anything! Believe me, I admire people who do karaoke, because that scares me! And I know it's a very active scene here in SA.
The Forum area for band announcements is open to anyone who wants to submit, just as all the other sections are. Through here and other avenues, I've told many, MANY bands and musicians that they should spend a few minutes to put their shows on the calendar, forum, blog, etc.
It's publicity free for the taking, but no one can MAKE them take the time to do it, just like no one can MAKE them take the time to send their gig schedule to the Express-News Weekender, 99.5 KISS, the Current, 210SA, SAMBE.org, etc.
They have to be motivated for themselves to do that, as none of these publications or Web Sites has the time or resources to go searching this information out. That's why when you pick up these papers or hear the "Critical Party Information" you only see or hear a few listings.
The Forum section has been a great learning tool for a lot of people and even though it occasionally degenerates into some nastiness (but not lately), it's a great place to share ideas, ask questions, discuss the San Antonio music scene, etc.
Most bands who know about SA Rocks also take the time to plug it at gigs, on their Web sites, etc., and that is what keeps things going and keeps the visitors coming in.
I consider SA Rocks an additional tool to use in conjunction with our Myspace site, our Web site, our mailing list, the ads we buy in local papers, and the free announcements we can send in to other places.
And just a personal anecdote ... I recently got an e-mail from a very well-known sports apparel manufacturer in California asking if we were available for a gig here in San Antonio. While the gig did not materialize, the woman who contacted me said she saw a review about Alter Ego on the SA Rocks blog! Looks like people do come here pretty often!
Please continue to frequent and use the site, that is what keeps it alive. You can remain anonymous or identify yourself ... honestly, it don't matter to me .. but please, please do continue to contribute, pose a question, bring up a topic for discussion, refer a cool article you saw somewhere, or give your opinion! Look forward to hearing from you!

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

This is my first post to SA Rocks and I thought this was a good place to weigh in.
I'm a drummer that moved to SA last July and this is one of the first sites I found that I felt provided good info on the bands and venues in the area. Three out of four of the places I have visited is because of band info I have found here.
I agree that it appears that you see the same thing over and over, but what that appears to be are the same bands taking the time to let you/us know, over and over, where they are playing and what else is going on. An invaluable tool.
I did not know there were financial difficulties with this site but now that I do...where do I send the check?
How to make the site better? You can't. And that is because you can not please all the people all the time. You are providing a forum for musicians and fans of music. What else should you do?????

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

While we're on the subject of flyers, I was wondering where exactly I should send our flyers. I used to send them to Rowan and Kelly, but it's been a while. Has that changed? Also, can someone please add Third Eye and Edge of Grace to the band list? We appreciate everything you guys do with SA Rocks. We LOVE you!! Hi Rowan and Kelly!!

I've been bombarding the blog, yessss mostly flyers, because I'm gonna be out of town.

Better early than not at all!

I'd like to get some videos up to accompany those lonely flyers, so if you've got them let us know

I still check this site out a few times a week at least. Great information and I always know who's playing where. I've been lazy about posting our shows here lately but I still think this site rocks and provides an invaluable service to musicians and music fans. Thank you, ladies.

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

I love this site! It’s always loaded with great info. I seldom post but I am a frequent viewer.
It’s great to see the camaraderie amongst musicians and drummers. (I know, I know, that’s so old but it’s still funny.) Plus, Rowan is the only TV Celebrity I know.
btw… Brett is playing rock, he just don’t know it yet.

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

Hi all, a good thread to come back to. I'm back Rowan, and willing to go another session for development of the 'data' portions of the site. It will be a couple of weeks, but I have a schedule clearing for a few days, with no contract, so I can spend those days fixing the existing schedule/band pages making them better and easier.

Rowan, I actually help mod a VB forum for my car club. I was asking my buddy(The owner of the site) what the costs were and how hard it was to set up. It seems to be a lot easier than most people think it is. And it doesn't cost a fortune either.

Ladies and Bro's. The Ringerz are alive and well in this site. Although I've seen them and have communicated with them, I've never met Rowan and Kelly face-to-face - BUT they totally rock.

Seriously, I've met people that have come to one of our gigs because of this site. I am grateful it's here and I have made some musician friends here because of it (sorry guys, yea yea yea, singers are bunk, i know the tune man).

Keep on Rollin Kelly and Rowan and let me know what I need to do to be a good rock soldier!

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

I visit this site everyday.Big shout out to Rowan and Kelly for keeping this site up.Very informative, not just for the bands, but for the general public as well. I plug the site at the shows.Way better than some of the band myspace/s out there, not always kept upto date.Amazing at how many people have come to a gig and said they found us at sarocks. Some even ask about where another band might be playing that night or next week. Most of the time I will know(because of sarocks) or I just mention the site.I send in posters for all our gigs. Might not be the best, I'm still in the learning process.I love doing them.Hats off to all of you doing posters for your band/events.Thats alot of work.If posters are not "some visitors" cup o tea, theres always the schedule link. If ya dont like the site, go watch tv or read the current or whatever.SAROCKS.COM ROCKS!!!!

Re: ROLE CALL! - just for curiosity's sake

Hi from Ty Gavin, the bottom line is ya'll are doing a great service to the S.A. Rock Scene. The S.A.CREEPER< http://www.myspace.com/sancreeper> BLOGS has some interesting points on the state of the union for S.A. Rock. I say it's time for the New Texas Music Revolution. Let this be the call for all bands to raise the bar and participate in the scene and see San Antonio re-emerge and re-establish it self as "The (Forever) Metal Capital of Texas" and bring national attention to the outstanding talent from " The Most Fiercely Independent Music Scene in Texas".
Right now, I'm working on promoting"THIRTEEN" by TheS.A.CREEPER and I am trying to track down the best of the Glam metal bands and also the best of the Stripped Down Metal bands to put some shows together with. I'm especially interested in bands doing their own songs, at least mainly.
Check out my blogs and please help me get this thing going for the most rocking summer in S.A. I appreciate any ideas and comments. Thanks!
