97.7
What do you guys think of this new rock station we have here? No commercials, no dj's? Same stuff as KISS, but seems like a little more variety. But how long will it last like that? They can't go forever with no commercials, right? It has been nice, though, the last couple mornings while driving the kids to school. I can't listen to Lisle and Hahn with them in the car (too raunchy), so we usually listen to KZEP, and mostly in the mornings they play mellow stuff like Journey or Styx...puts me back to sleep. On 97.7, yesterday morning they were playing Megadeth while I was driving. This morning it was White Zombie. Wakes me right up! Side note: the other day I heard them play U2 on KZEP...what's up with that? I've never heard them play stuff like that on there...are we heading for some competition between radio stations here? |

I don't think they will stay commercial free for long. I think it's just to build up their listener base. Kind of cool having another rock station, but the fact that it's virtually identical to KISS's play list is lame IMO. I've already heard the same exact songs being played at the same time on each station. |

From what little I've heard, there are some differences from KISS. Any competition is good for the market, and I like the format, kind of a rock JACK-FM. I'll find myself listening to JACK more often only because of the sometimes weird combinations they'll play, like Johnny Cash then Alice In Chains then Falco! |

JACK is the station I turn to when I don't like what's on KISS or KZEP or (now) 97.7 or the other radio station I have programmed in (similar to KZEP, with more variety, can't remember the name, don't think it's local). You never know what they'll be playing on JACK! But yes, I think it's good for there to be competition. Keeps them on their toes and makes them (re)consider what people want to hear. I think KISS and KZEP have gotten complacent, having so little competition. |

i don't know if its just my car antenna or what not, but I get lousy reception. Some times its clear, then static , then clear. I'd dont know where their tower is located but i live in leon valley. Any one else have the same problem? |

Joel, I have seen similar complaints, particularly on the north and northwest sides of town. I have had no problem myself, but I am northeast. |

Yeah, I get the signal problems too. It could be the position of their tower or that they aren't using a very high powered signal. As for the format, I like the commercial free music, but the playlist is just KISS without the dj. My favorite station is 101x from Austin (I listen online). They'll play Tool, then Beastie Boys then Chili Peppers then Cypress Hill all in one set. That's my kind of variety. A little rock, metal, alternative and rap (yes, I said rap) all spread out during the course of the day. Sort of a more modern Jack FM with dj's. |

What this new station needs to do is follow the format of Houston's 94.7 The BUZZ. That station is the seriously one of the best I have ever heard. I hit it up online all the time. |

I don't even bother turning on the radio anymore. San Antonio has some of the worst radio in the country. Nothing beats my iPod or my favorite CDs. |

Yes, I always listen to 101x when I go to Austin! Good station! And Staci is always telling me how great The Buzz in Houston is. Wish we had something more like that here!! |

The 97.7 tower is in McQueeney, which is way out to the Northeast, near Seguin. No wonder I can't pick it up until I pass I-10 on 1604! Clear Channel swallows up another station? No surprise there, but I would be surprised if they changed KZEP's format! Yet another argument for XM or Sirius radio! |

A couple weeks ago, I heard some lady on 97.7 talking about why we should read to our children. Then the other day I heard a commercial for a community college and a concert announcement for Type O Negative. So I guess it won't be too much longer until 97.7 is another KISS, eh? |

Likin' this station, but have one more complaint...I HATE the way they censor their music!! They just completely cut out any offensive words...I mean, they cut out the whole thing...beat and all. Totally messes with the beat of the song. I don't like that. For instance, in that Disturbed song, Stupefy, they cut out that word that we all know is supposed to be F*CK, but it doesn't really actually say it. So the beat goes, 'Everybody in the high-rise, everybody in the projects, etc.' and the beat is all messed up! They even censor words that other stations don't...anything to do with sex or drugs. They censor the word "cocaine" in that Buckcherry song. They censor "sex" and "whore" in Green Day's "Basket Case." A little overboard censorship as far as I'm concerned. And like I said, the fact that they leave out the whole beat really screws me up!! Oh, and on Radiohead's "Creep," instead of using the radio-friendly version that says, "You're so VERY special," they have some messed-up censored version that says, "You're so fuh-fuh special." What the heck is up with that?! Anyway, this is just nitpicking at a station that I prefer and listen to more than I listen to KISS. Perhaps I'm just expecting too much...? |

Ah ha thanks! I'm trying to get the word out on this Gonzales Thunder Rally festival in October as much as possible, 'coz the corporate basterds in Houston are trying to steal the spotlight. Anyway, I've saturated most of the SA Market (they hate me I'm sure, that or I'll get lucky), and am trying to find the Program Director or Online Sales contact to send a promo pack to... I mean c'mon we (as in Ben, his wife Donna and me made Billboard Mag, *sniff*) http://billboard.prweb.com/releases/gonzales/rally/prweb1072834.htm See you at Click's Christian! 'Every rose has it's thorn!!!' F*** I feel so bloody old.
