Caffeine free Diet Soda

Re: Caffeine free Diet Soda
David I was wondering if it was alright to drink caffeine free Diet soda. Is there any restrictions how much of this you can drink in a given day? From a strictly counting-the carbs point of view, as long as the soda does not contain sugar, it's OK. Having said that, some experts maintain that artifical sweeteners can trigger insulin just because they have a sweet taste. Whether this is the case or not, artificial sweeteners may also cause dieters problems in other ways, eg aspartame or Nutrasweet is believed to be an endocrine disrupter (more information on this in my book 'Why Can't I Lose Weight'at http://www.dietplateau.com.) If you like your drinks carbonated, then be aware that carbonated drinks are also believed to leach calcium from your bones. Since diet and other soft drinks are usually very little more than water with artificial colourings and flavourings, the bottom line is that most of them provide no nutrients and it's best to avoid them if you possibly can. Try plain water or herbal teas instead! If you make the change gradually, one day you'll find you don't want or need the sodas any longer. That's what I did - I just don't like them now, so it's no hassle to avoid them. |
