Re: Soya bran substitutes
Trish Rice bran or even wheat bran (as long as you're OK with wheat!)could be used as soya bran substitutes, although they're not so low in carbs. Best and easiest from the low carb point of view is probably sprouted flax powder - this is available in Holland & Barrett and Sainsbury's and probably in other big supermarkets too in your area. Flaxmeal would also work in most cases. In most of the recipes in the Low Carb / Low GI Cookbook which contain soya bran, it is really only there to help reduce the carb count of the bakemix. So you could simply leave it out and add a little more of the other dry ingredients. In most cases it wouldn't make that much difference to the overall carb count anyway. If you want further help with substituting, let me know which specific recipes you're trying out, and I'll be happy to suggest what might be best in each case. Good luck! Jackie |
