National Health Service recognition
Does your General Practitioner support your low carb diet? How has your low carb diet improved your health (eg weight, diabetes, risk factors for heart disease such as high blood pressure etc)? What message would you like to give to the Government / Chief Medical Officer about recognising low carb diets in official healthy eating guidelines? Could this save the Health Service money, and if so, how? |

Re: National Health Service recognition
I haven't told my doctor how I am losing the weight just that I have lost 23.5lb in the last 6 weeks! I have tried all other diets and find this way of eating to be much better. I have much more energy and feel great. The health profession should listen to their patients and notice that people are getting healthier and fitter by following this way of life! They should support us not encourage us to follow eating plans that obviously don't work for a lot of people! Mind you I think a lot of doctors need educating about diet and nutrition- when I was pregnant with my last child and carrying an excess of over9stone my doctor told me I should only be eating 1000 cals per day!! when I told my midwife she waslivid!! Re: National Health Service recognition
That's great news, Julie. It's such a shame that most of us cannot enjoy the support of our doctor while we are making such marked improvements to our health. Hopefully things are starting to change, though - the University of Surrey now offers an MSc in Nutritional Medicine. It'll be a while before anyone graduates from this new course, but let's hope they make a lot of noise when they do! Here's to your continued success with healthy eating the low carb way! |

Re: National Health Service recognition
i was put on to a version of low carb dieting by the hospital but they really take all the fun out of it... they call it a protein modified fast and it really consists of eating chicken and fish with vegetables, you have to restrict your cheese, olive oil and red meat content ... having had weightloss sucess with atkins in the past i went back on to this and they are happy with my progress. |
