It's not working. Help me!

I have been on the Atkins diet for over a week now. I am following the rules very strickly with no diviation.
I am very active, but I have been active my whole life, I work out at least 2 hours a day.
I havent lost any weight yet. I read that in the first two weeks I'm sipposed to lose anywhere from 5-10ibs.
Does this means that the Atkins diet just wont work for me? Or am I being very impatient?

Re: It's not working. Help me!

Ok I forgot to say, I am drinking plenty of water, about 5liters per day.
I also am eating at least 3 meals per day, and I consume a lot of calories. I know that I am not in the "starvation mode"

Re: It's not working. Help me - gastric banding?

Pam

Try the low carb diet first! There are lots of scientific reasons why low carb might work for you when low calorie/low fat 'conventional' diets haven't. In my view, gastric banding and gastric bypass surgery just treats the symptom not the cause. Even if a person does 'eat too much' (and many overweight people don't) the belief of many experts is that this is due to biochemical and hormonal causes which need to be dealt with for the sake of long term health as well as just losing the weight. A gastric band doesn't do this. However, a good low carb diet will get to the root of the problem for many people. If you'd like more information on this, I'd recommend you read 'Why Can't I Lose Weight' at www.dietplateau.com. In fact, I think this book is critical reading for anyone considering gastric banding or any other type of weight loss surgery.

You may also find the 'Easy Guide to Low Carb, Low GI & Low GL Diets' helpful. This is at http://www.lowcarbiseasy.com/easyguide.htm and is currently free on purchase of the 'Low Carb / Low GI Cookbook'.

With best wishes for success with your low carb diet

Don't give up too soon! From the questions you're asking, it sounds as if you would find the information in 'Why Can't I Lose Weight' at www.dietplateau.com very helpful. Unfortunately there are just too many issues around successful dieting, low carb or otherwise, to explain them all here!

With best wishes for the success of your diet
