Starting Low GI today....wish me success :)

Hello everyone. I have had it with my pants being too small and my profile way to wide...so I am embarking on Low GI beginning today. I have read books on the Glycemic Index and it makes perfect sense.

My goal is to lose 50 lbs in the next 9 months. I currently weigh 186 lbs, I have gained 40 lbs in the past 2 yrs due to stress, grief and medication. NO more excuses....I need to get healthy again, because at 46 I have 4 boys to raise...2 of my own ages 15 and 12 and have taken on my brother's children ages 4 and 8. I need LOTS of energy :)

I was successful on the Protien Power diet several years ago. My husband and I both used the diet. After 9 months I had maintained my 29 lb weight loss and my hubby had maintained his 20 lb weight loss. Then we went on vacation LOL>...

I will try to update my post each week. Next week I will post my weight loss and also my measurements.

I wish you all continued success in your diet endeavors and please feel free to ask any questions or give any advise.

Peace :)
Deborah

wk 2 update: Starting Low GI today....wish me success :)

Hello everyone. I made it through the first week of Low GI Dieting....the only concession I made was red wine each night. I think I have to give that up too :( because I didnt lose as much as I anticipated. Some of the meals I made/consumed were Whole Wheat pasta tossed with olive oil, spinach and red onion. It was really good, hubby liked it too
Grilled chicken with brown rice pilaf, and mixed veggies. Pizza Nite - I ordered a large Greek Salad (saved 1/2 for next day) and ate ONLY ONE PC OF PIZZA. That's a change! For breakfast I had steel cut oats with honey and prunes, or an omelet with avocada and hot salsa. Lunches were either open faced turkey and swiss (one pc of whole grain bread) and fruit, turkey and swiss sandwich wrap on low carb tortilla with edamame, and today I had a large salad and 1/2 baked sweet potato with margarine. Snacks I have are almonds, peanuts, cheese, celery with cheese spread, and an occasional pc of dark chocolate.

My stats:
Wk 1: Weight = 186.5, Waist = 41 1/4", Hips = 49 1/2", Upper Thigh = 24", Upper Arm = 13 1/2"
Wk 2: Weight = 185, Waist = 40 1/4", Hips = 48", Upper Thigh = 24", Upper Arm = 13"

I'll check in again next week, we'll see if results with no wine during the week help the weight loss.

Best of luck to all!
Deborah

Re: Starting Low GI today....wish me success :)

Hi Deborah

A week's not a long time where diets are concerned! I'd give it at least a month to see if the Low GI helps you.

If not, then I'd recommend you try low carb. The low GI diet is OK for some people, and eating low GI is definitely an improvement on eating a diet full of high GI, high carb items such as sugary drinks, white bread and rice, biscuits, cakes, pastries and chips. But unfortunately a low GI diet is still too high in carbs for many people. It also fails to deal with another issue that prevents many people from losing weight - food sensitivities, particularly to wheat. Having lost weight successfully on a high protein diet may also be an indicator that a diet lower in carbs than low GI may suit you best, but give the low GI a good try first!

Best wishes

Jackie
