I have a spare engine that has been bashed about a bit. A couple of the crank case lugs (which take the through bolts) are mostly broken away.
Is there a fix for this? I read about 'aluminium solder' (e.g. Lumiweld) but fixing it would need building up a lug and drilling - not just welding a missing bit back on - and I suspect that would need a mould of some sort.
This must be a common problem - especially for bikes without a bash plate.
Are there any ideas or, preferably, experiences out there? I suspect a professional welder is the way to go.
You're right a professional welder is the only way to go without terminally damaging the cases. Also you will need someone who has done this sort of thing before. Some machining will also be required.
