Chaucer Primary School Centenary

Chaucer Community Primary School was founded under the name of Chaucer Road Board School in the year 1902 when foundation stones were laid on 15th April. It is due to celebrate the month of its official opening in April 2003. (Officially opened 22nd April 1903)

In order to commemorate the centenary of Chaucer School the staff have decided to stage a special week of events which it is intended will mark the centenary in different ways.

These events are planned for the week Monday 7th April to Friday 11th April and will include the following: -

Monday 7th April Staff and pupils dressed in Victorian costume – class photographs

Tuesday 8th April Pupils to have a centenary ‘Street Party’ picnic on the Mount

Wed 9th April Day targeted for external visitors – speakers to visit school.

Thurs 10th April Special reunion day for past parents, pupils and staff, with either

2.30 – 4pm tour of school and display re photos and memorabilia

6– 7.30pm afternoon tea – special presentation – commemorative

cake cutting.

Fri 11th April Whole school assembly with special performance by every class

linked to dance/music selected decades.

We have decided to organise special displays in order to decorate the school where every class will focus on a specific author covering each decade of the 20th Century.

Additionally there will be a display of memorabilia from Chaucer School together with photographs from the period 1902 to 2002/3.

All past pupils, parents and staff from Chaucer School are invited to attend April 10th reunion.

Will any past pupil, parent or staff who have access to any photographs related to the schools please contact our Secretary so that we could possibly borrow these for a limited period of time.

The School is using the centenary as an opportunity to enrich the curriculum.

We are all extremely excited about the plans for the Centenary – we feel we have planned a wide range of events and hope that this may now encourage past pupils, parents and staff to contact us and revisit their former school on Thursday April 10th – the date of our reunion.
