Distinctive & Different

Which vocalists could you hear and no matter who was backing them, know who they were?
My nominations that I could think of off the top of my head would be....
Roger Chapman-Family
Howard Werth-Audience
David Surkamp-Pavlovs Dog
Robert Plant-Led Zep
David Byron-Uriah Heep

Cocker, Lemmy & Plant??

No thanks.

When it comes to vocalists I dont need no feckin' sideshow.
I dont want things contrived, and specially not melodramatic.

Thats why I like so much 70s South American prog/psych - those vocalists are remarkably laid-back and natural.

Speaking of natural and unnatural, if its an unusual, unique BUT NATURAL-TO-THE-SINGER voice, I can go for it - except when it can get ridiculous like certain later ,grating Dylan croaking.

A fav of this unpolished "Grandma Moses" school would be the folk singer, Shirley Collins.

Rod Stewart's voice is one I particularly abhor.
But AL Stewart is an all-time fav vocalist of the Pax-master.

Kevin Ayers has a unique voice and very pleasant/calming too.

Ahhh yes K. Ayers how could I forget him As for natural, distinctive & unique I would have to go with the Brasilians and Luis Alberto Spinetta (Argentina)
but all are outside the scope of this forum

Not sure about Jagger. In the beginning, yes, but as they became big there were so many vocalists trying to sound like him, it was hard to tell the original from the copy, particularly some of the American garage bands.

Mick Farren - No one sounds like Mick, or should that be no one WANTS to sound like Mick?

Spinetta. Great choice!

Re: Distinctive & Different

David Surkamp- Pavlov's Dog have a new studio disc out and his voice has deepened changed with age although it's still one of the most distinctive I've heard.

Better than Geddy!
