Anno Domini-On this New Day(71)

Never saw this album get a mention on this forum,so i thought i'll give it a mention, first off this is a good little album from this Irish group, from the opener "So you Want To Be a Rock'n'roll Star"the Byrds song of course,Anno Domini give it justice, one of the best version i've heard(trying to think who else covered this song)with some scorching guitar.Other faves are the fab poppy "Hitchcock Railway",the acoustic folk like"Bad Lands Of Ardguth"the harmonious and gentle"This GoodLife i Have"the energetic fuzzed up bluesy heavy guitar of "Daddy Rowlin"and finally"June Tremayne"a rather good piece of fock rock early 70s style!!This was reiussed in 2006 by Repertoire on cd,and what a good reissue it is,liners giving you a bit of a background oh how this group came to be,of course this album was originally releaseD by the very interesTing label DERAM just wanted to mention this album as im sure others who frequent here would appreciate it.Anyone else enjoy this album or indeed cant take to it?Be great to see what you have to say!!Roll on Anno Domini.

Don't know it Stuart but it sounds interesting. They were put together by Tiger Taylor ex Eire Apparent and after he left the Jones brothers who went on to form Jonesy came on board. Apparently there is a second album that was never released.

How do you know about this 2nd unreleased album? It sounds very interesting. I hope it will be released some day.

Well this is a surprise, didn't know about RZ2 till today, so I'm going back to the beginning and maybe to reply some older posts, if I can contribute with some fresh info. About Anno Domini's second album, I had a confirmation by John Evan Jones while we were working on the Jonesy's fourth and then still unreleased album (Sudden prayer...). He gave me David Mercer email address, got a first encouraging reply from him and then Mr.Mercer suddenly disappeared... So it goes, but Jones told me the LP would have been musically quite different from the first

That's interesting information. Good to know the 2nd album is probably less interesting. I guess it will never see the light of day...

PS Is there a relation between Jonesy and Anno Domini?

Yes Feddo, there was as after recording the first album, which was issued first in Germany (and the picture shows the original line-up), Taylor was replaced by John Evan Jones and his brother Trevor joined too, and this is the (wrong) line up showed on the UK Deram edition. This second line-up recorded the unreleased second album
