Your own psych radio program

"What is this!
And I was so happy...
Just a radio station
your own room
In your own home"

-Simon & Garfunkel 'Old Friends' Bookends

As you are doubtless sick and tired of hearing me bitch - I dont have the luxury of a fast internet connection. So I cannot listen to internet radio. And when Im at the library computer, I usually have too much other stuff on mind than to tune in programs.
Had I the time and connection, I would most certainly listen to Feddo's show (which I used to listen to years ago.) Also the Herne Bay show sounds like a treat.

Internet psych programs I have come upon during the years most surely sound like they have been put together by those in the know, and likely those with deep collections.
But, trouble was, due to limited time and no funding for this their passion, they record on a disc and continually rotate the same few hours worth material.
This is of course understandable.

Anyways. Few questions:
1/ how many here would like their own program, had they the free time?

2/ there are at least two on this forum who DO have their own program. To them I ask: does it ever bother you to think that the effort you put into the show goes on deaf ears? That your audience is unknown and you suspect ,very small?

3/ more importantly, I have always wondered - whether broadcasting your show from a university campus radio station, or from the internet, is there some technology that informs the numbers of persons actually listening at a given time??

4/Is there a FREE way of starting up your own station on the net?

Re: Your own psych radio program

the answer to this is NO as you only have DIAL A PIGEON UP internet connection...allegedly
there are ways [according to God Google]to set up free internet but i think from a quick read you will need high speed connection.
im now considering starting a Wurzels only radio station hoping some of you closet fans will tune in

Wurzels rule...the pidgeon nest.

I present, for your edification , a picture of a Worzel and a pidgeon:

Re: Your own psych radio program

Hi Wallace
Let me put one thing straight first: you'll be able to tune into the mp3 stream of our radiostation with the slowest internet connection, even a telephone line.
That's because the stream was set up ages ago and we want our stream to be accessible for everybody, also those who can not afford fast connections.
Now, there are not many radiostations on the internet that you can listen to through a telephone line. Put to Radio Patapoe you can.

My Psychedelicatessen radioshow is usually live, never prerecorded.

Can you send me a link to the Herne Bay show? I am always looking for other psychedelic radioshows that we can play during the nights on our radiostation.

To answer your second question:
I know I am doing a radioshow for a niche market but I don't care. I prefer to have a few persons listening properly then to play muzak for vacuumcleaning housewives who don't listen.
My radioshow started as a paid job at a local radiostation. I could only play hits from a list so I was gone after one day. Now I do it voluntary but I can do what I want. That's freedom.
There are some people that are listening every week to my show. These are the real music lovers and collectors who appreciate the obscure stuff I play. I prefer to have a few of those who really appreciate the stuff I play then to have a huge audience who only want to hear the hits they already know.

And your 3rd question:
Yes, I can see how much people are tuned in. It's not a lot, but for me it's enough to keep doing the show as I know they truly appreciate the music and the hard labor I put in it.
Unfortunately I can not see how much people are listening through FM.

And your 4th question:
Yes, it is possible to start your own radiostation, you just have to find the right people. There are some radiostations that offer space to make your show from home. Like for example Last FM(?) and Aural innovations.
If you really want to do something there is always a way to realize your dreams.

Bye

Feddo

Re: Your own psych radio program

Thanks Feddo.

"within forty-five SECONDS at the first sign of attack patapoe is a cute little doggie " - Thats a good one!

The Herne Bay show is by someone on this forum.
Possibly Joe???

....
Hey what gives?
No more 4-letter captkas-wotsits required to fill out when posting here? Cool.

Re: Your own psych radio program

I've done some stuff with the Internet, but that's not my show. In general I tend to post music I've made on my various keyboards on podcasts. But it's been a while since I've done that. I do check out other people's shows from time to time, especially if the set list looks good!

Re: Your own psych radio program

Hi Wallace
Did you try tuning into my radioshow with your low speed internet connection? It should work.

Do you have the link to that Herne Bay show?
Cheers

Feddo

Re: Your own psych radio program

That's exactly why I am posting my playlists here! I hope people will be tempted to tune in. Increasing the amount of devoted listeners is the main reason why I post my playlists here.

Good to know there is no psychedelic radioshow from Herne bay. I was looking at the website from their local radiostation but I could not find it.

Wallace (or anyone else): if you want to make your own radioshow, just do it and I will play it on our radiostation!
Just upload it to wetransfer.com and send me the link.

cheers

Feddo

Re: Your own psych radio program

I tried tuning in to Patapoe (by hitting the mp3 poodle) but I get this error message:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is located on the Internet, connect to the Internet"

???

(In other words, its foxing me.)

Re: Your own psych radio program

Hello
That´s odd. It seems that Windows Media player is thinking that you are not connected to the internet.
Maybe it is something with the settings?
Can your Windows Media player connect to the internet and download or see standard music in online shops?
It should be available here:
media guide -> search for music in online shops
That would be the proof that your Windows Media player can connect to the internet.

May it works with file -> open ->
and fill in the URL of our mp3 stream:
http://icecast.freeteam.nl/patapoe.m3u

I know for the ogg stream Windows Media Player needs some plugins for certain versions, but not for the mp3 stream.
You clicked on the doggie, right? And not the radio?

I hope we can work this out as it would be great to have you again as a listener. You are definately somebody who would appreciate the tunes...
(I hope)

Bye

Feddo

Re: Your own psych radio program

The Herne Bay show is called "Rose Coloured Glasses" and it's done by Mick Capewell who also runs the great Marmalade Skies UK psych website. Heres a link to previous sound files and play lists. Not sure if it's still going, though:
