Regal Zonophone 2
Vocokesh
Sungrazer
the Paperhead
Sky Picnic
Vibravoid -Minddrugs (set your controls for the heart of the Butt)
5 neopsychs. Okay if you like dumbass simple minimal effort seesaw. Most of the vocalists in these bands want to effuse stoned-lazy-trippin'karma (which calls for boring vocalists.)
Graveyard - this on the otherhand is good retrohard. Like Sabbath
BOWIE-PIN-UPS see emily play superb track...
The question being:
given something as nigh-perfect as "See Emily Play" to work with, is it:
1/ almost impossible for anyone to do a bad cover?
2/ extremely possible to muff it up
XTC - Apple Venus (This title makes so absolutely no sense that I can never remember it!)
Philsers should get off on this cd: "A man must have a shed to keep him sane"
Spirit - "Best of"
Just got this lp for free.
Wallace said before that Wallace does not rate them much. VERY patchy lps.
But this way they sound quite passable.
Lp is a keeper.
walter olde fruit just caught up with posts slagging me off now thats not nice my good wife will be round to put her Zimmer frame where sun doesnt [and never has ] shine

How unwise the man who doth eschew the esculent Prog.
Dems wot follows Prog flee the Dark and pass beyond flesh & blood, attaining Godlihood, wisdom immortal.
N.P. Cuprum "Musica depositum" new Check retroprog that sounds exactly like the good ol' 70s.
Breakout - NOL Polish funkyrock? pretty good, male & female vocalist
Wadsworth Mansion - same
Typical American goodtime rockpop. Compulsory if you wish to contract The Aides. This gave me aides.
Billy Cobham - Shabazz full tilt furious fusion. Never lets up
Earth & Fire - song of marching children
- Atlantis
Latte e Miele - Papillon
Primo primo Italian prog. You GOTTA have this in the collectro.
Most (uncultured) people think the title refers to the movie released at the time (about some frenchie escaping a prison or summart loike). When in fact it is about a puppet from Stravinsky's "Petrouchka".
It takes a bonerfida Masterman to know things like this.
rolling stones -now! got two of my fav stones tracks on off the hook/red rooster
De De Lind - Io Non So Da Dove Vengo E Non...
Gli Alluminogeni - Scolopendra
Genesis - Nursery Cryme (from the '1970-1975' box set... I really prefer these remasters over the originals, anyone else?)
The Syn - Original Syn (the YesServices Edition)
Yes. Orig Genesis Fox & Cryme sound compressed and the bass is pathetic.
Remasters work for Wallace!

Colin Blunstone: One Year & Ennismore (Journey is next in line) Yeah, I got the Sony Music '3 Original Album Classics' this week after humming and hawing for a couple of years. This was due to a review on amazon.uk stating that Journey is ruined by distortion and two second gaps on the first three tracks (which should be seamless). So far the first two albums are excellent, although polar opposites... One Year is orchestral and Ennismore has Argent as the back-up band.
I'm hoping Journey has been fixed, but if not these first two make the purchase more than worth it.
I've also been trying to listen to The Electric Asylum discs... and I'm sorry to say I'm pretty disappointed so far. Anyone interested in taking these off my hands?
Tonight erfoower pub loike:
Ardo Dombec - s/t
Maquina - Why?
The Royal Servants - We
Vibravoid-Distortions
Wallace be undecided at this moment.
When the first one came out many years ago now, Wallace was completely bowled over. Yet somehow -well, actually the reason being that there is so much else to explore - failed to explore the rest of their catalogue.(Never even looked them up on the internet - still dont know where they hail from. Thinking maybe Germany (due to some Can influence?) but likely they are Brits.)
What Vibra has going for it is its always a thick soup - lots going on.All sorts effects, panning, sounds like mellotron, sound generator noises alla Hawkwind, electronic treatment on vocals. This makes them comparable to the more psychedelic works put out by that band that did that "Issness" cd...errr....Lords Of...Summat???
The thick, busy mix and the distorting of vocals makes it bit difficult to make out the words, but thats no bad deal since the lyrics are puerile at best. (One CAN-ish track just has constant reiteration of something like, "Save my soul Jesus. Rock & roll baby.")
Even though very busy, the base of redundant repetition makes this band best to listen to in smaller doses - not, say an entire 70 minute cd (which Wallace understands is the length of at least one of their other releases.)
Guess this is what they call psychedelic spacerock and suppose there are a WEALTH of bands out there
mining this vein of dubious worth. Still, from what Wallace has heard, this is definitely the better of said genre.
They CAN play and show it in small bursts of solo (especially when they do the eastern-psych-sound thingy), but not near long enough. Certainly no real jamming.
So then - lots of padding/fill, repetition, fuzz-drone....but because its busy and moves about, it retains your interest (under headphones).
The standout track (3rd) had me immediately thinking of Lemmings-period Amon Duul. Then I checked the tracklist and, guess what, its a cover of "Eye-Shaking King"!
Now ,if that isnt good karma, then what is.
Like who else you know covers Amon Duul?
Yes, they are from Germany Wallace...
I went on a huge Vibravoid kick when I first discovered them, buying everything I could get my hands on (Turned On Acid, Void Vibration, The Politics Of Ecstasy, Distortions and the Triptamine CD/DVD). Good stuff - though some much better than others.
And as you said, it is best taken in small doses...
n/p:
Missus Beastly - s/t ('70)
Wots the weakest Beastly lp?
Wot bands dem connected with?
No desire ter listern to any others.
Embryo?
Today:
Gnidrolog - Lady Lake
Saturnalia - Magical Love
Odin - s/t
Quatermass - s/t
HULLABALLOOS- excellent beat from early 60s with twangy guitar work
Missus Beastly -same (red cover one, with bluesy organ moves. I fink it also goes under annover title.)
Second Hand - Death Will Be Your Santa Claus
excellent music deployed with complete disregard of commercial viability. Wild vocals side one. Instrumental side 2. Reminds me of "Galactic Zoo dossier" lp by Arfur Brown & al.
Prog part n' parcel of the fustian (bombastic) glories. Embodiment of maniac Tezcatlipoca made flesh.
Beggars description.
VA - TRAVELS OF MRS FITZHENRY
Truely excellent popsike comp put out, Wallace believes, by someone on this forum.
Was there a vol 2, or just a rumour?
.....
On an aside:
Was at the local dump the other month dropping off some electronic rubbish and this woman comes to dump a SUBWOOFER and asks maybe I have use for it.
Wow! What a difference this makes on your system. And Wallace be talking STEREO system, not where subwoofers are more usually used - home theatres.
Wallace heartily recommends you add one of these boxes to your set-up.
Best thing is -and Karns would be best to agree/disagree with Wallace on this one- placement does not really matter since subwoofers put out long waves so cancelling nodes are not much of a problem.
Wallace has a 4 speaker set up. In this case Wallace has heard of the use of TWO subwoofers. Dont think this is really necessary though.
So then, use a subwoofer by all means! (But dont go overboard and set it on high.)
Stuart made the excellent Travels of Mrs F. comp.
