Re: Crosby,Stills and Nash UK soundalikes

Yes, Wallace was going to say the second Mighty Baby.
Terrible lp.

Re: Crosby,Stills and Nash UK soundalikes

Agreed Wallace. A disappointment after the first album.

Hi Greg,Ive never heard any Cochise stuff, are those albums worth tracking down?Same with Bronco, another new one to me,another album that had a CS&N vibe is Marmalades"Reflections Of",some marvellous harmonies and acoustic picking on there!!

You certain about Marmalade sounding American?

I got that particular lp in my "to be traded off" pile, but I dont recall disliking it because it sounded United Snakish.

Re: Crosby,Stills and Nash UK soundalikes

Stuart, I have the Cochise album Swallow Tales which is quite good in an English country rock sort of way. I wouldn't rave about it but then again it's not really my favourite music genre that's for sure. The band contained Mick Grabham and BJ Cole pre Procol Harum. Cole's pedal steel is an instrument usually associated with US west coast/country sound. I like the track Home Again.
As for Bronco, I've only heard a couple of tracks of theirs and from what i remember they sound as if they actually were American. Jess Roden was in this band.

i remember when the album by marvin, welch and farrar was released they were being hailed as the british version of crosby, stills and nash.

Re: Crosby,Stills and Nash UK soundalikes

Some tracks on that album to my ears have a sorta CS&N feel to them, the likes of Rainbow and Reflections of my life have that acoustic sounds at the front along with some fab vocal harmonisation,i once read a description the music of CS&N as wooden music, giving a clue as to the acoustic sounds being made, theres more tracks treading similar territory Wallace but i cant be bothered looking and listening through the cd.But hey you may hear it differently!!

Actually Stuart, I think you sent me a copy of the Gypsy cd The Romany Collection, so if you like that I think you would like Cochise. I'd send you a copy of Swallow Tales but I only have it on vinyl.

Hi Greg,Cant remember sending you Gypsy, what did you think of the Romany Collection?I think theres some real good tracks on that fine collection.

Re: Crosby,Stills and Nash UK soundalikes

I quite liked it Stuart. From what i remember it's made up of the first album, some singles and tracks from a proposed 3rd album that was not issued at the time.
Certainly a lot different that their previous incarnation as Legay.
I remember particularly enjoying the track Let me Take You Home.

Crowded House from NZ i thought was them when i 1st heard weather with you.

Re: Crosby,Stills and Nash UK soundalikes

I've read some people describe Hard Meat as a bit CSNY, but I think they're a bit to rock for that description to work. Otherwise you have to say any band with acoustic guitars has a CSNY sound, and that isn't really the case.

CSN UK soundalikes? How about The Hollies circa '67/'68! Many of Graham's songs sound like he's limbering up for CSN.

Perfect weather in the UK at the moment to be listening to some CSNY soundalikes. At the moment I'm listening to the Mason CD that Cherry Red issued last year ('Fading' is such a great song), and I'll be following that with some late 60s Hollies, the first Marvin Welch and Farrar album and Unicorn's 'Uphill All The Way'. Just hope the sun stays out that long!

Re: Crosby,Stills and Nash UK soundalikes

Check out Graham's songs on The Hollies' 'Butterfly' album if you haven't already, Andy. And the brilliant song 'Wings' - which Graham was inspired to write after hearing Buffalo Springfield's 'Expecting To Fly'.

First two Hookfoot albums, maybe Quiver too

Re: Crosby,Stills and Nash UK soundalikes

Do not forgot Starry Eyed and Laughing who tried to forge a blend of the Byrds with CSN.
