Funny you bring that up. I am so anxious/skeptical/wary even when Bian Wilson does something these days. I enjoyed his 1988 comeback, but a lot of the stuff seemed to suffer from less than excellent songs, and his less flexible voice.
However, the snippets i heard of the new album didn't cause me great degrees of trepidation. Nice to hear it may be a 20/20 type of pleasure. I always thought that album and Friends managed the nostalgia gracefully, as well as the previously mentioned Brian Wilson solo from 1988.
I was rather dreading the reunion album, but my fears have been allayed. It's good, and in actual fact sometimes great. Some tracks are maybe a little too obvious, and perhaps the album might have benefited from just a little Van Dyke Parks' weirdness. But the last three or four tracks are winners, and worthy additions to The Beach Boys' legacy.
