The Baroques-Purple Day

I heard some good news it seems the US label Gearfab records are goiing to be reissuing on cd the only Baroques(US) album that was originally issued strangely enough by the Chess Label,i do have the above cd which i personally think is tremendous,im not too sure where the above cd(Purple Day) originated from, but it features most of the Chess album and umpteen unreleased tracks, this imo is one of the best US psych cds in my collection, tracks like "Iowa(A girls Name),Mary Jane,Bicycle,Purple Day,Musical Tribute to Oscar Meyer Weinberg Wagon,Flyin Machine,Death of an Onion.......,the list could go on,imo there really aint a bad track on this cd,i know i can get over enthusistic about stuff but this group and this cd deserves all the plaudits i give it,plus some of the tracks have a kinda anglophile sound to them which is an extra bonus. I hope gearfab include al the unreleased stuff on this cd that theyre releasing along with the whole Chess album!!
Anyone else rate this group ?Anyone have the "Purple Day"cd?Highly recommended !!

Re: The Baroques-Purple Day

So Stuart, the new one is going to be a straight reissue with no extra tracks, but the older one has this plus a lot of extras?

On a similar sort of band note, I don't suppose anybody has a compilation lp from the early 90s The Squires- Going All The Way With...that they want to get rid of?

A great group, with a nice blend of Byrdsian folk-rock and psych elements, and strong tunes. The album is an essential purchase,IMO.

Re: The Baroques-Purple Day

Hiya Greg,i dont know if the Gearfab cd reissue will have all the extra tracks,i have a feeling the cd i've got couldve been put together by a band member or someone close,i think i bought it from Freak Emporium Mail Order years ago,no label is evident on the cd packaging but it comes with good liners and period photos and loads of extra tracks and the sound quality is pretty good on most tracks.Heres hoping Gearfab do include the bonuses,if not it will be a wasted chance for more people to hear them.

Re: The Baroques-Purple Day

Gearfab are known for being a bit skimpy as far as bonus stuff goes, so if it isn't listed I suspect they won't have any bonus material. Pity.
