Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

Out Set / Oct I think. Go here:

https://www.facebook.com/LovePoetryAndRevolution

Click on the post re track list and they all come up. It won't let me copy it so you'll have to look for yourselves. There's quite a few unissued / demo versions of more familiar stuff as well as a lot that has been reissued more than once, but it makes a nice mix. There's at least one of those Tintern Abbey acatates that were featured on someone's blog a year or two ago. A nice looking set anyway.

Re: Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

Now this looks good! Plenty of lesser known or rarely heard stuff, which makes it strange that they would put Open Mind's Magic Potion on this collection as it's been on many comps before.
Anyone know what The Misunderstood track is like?

Re: Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

Misunderstood is track is brilliant - find it on yuotube probably. It is on the 'Before The Dream Faded' set, one of thier 'Children of The Sun' type numbers.

Quite a bit of this is obvious stuff (to those who its aimed at anyway) but it does have a good variety of demo / acetate stuff, presumably from David Wells who has contributed to it and writtent he liners. It's like the 'Looking Back' mod beat set, a mix of the obvious recycling exercise sweetened by the more obscure. Hopefully therefore a budget price. 'Looking Back' is on Amazon @£17 now (I paid about £21 when new I think) and the 'Looking Good' girls set is £15, so I guess it will be in that range. Nice 3 x card sleeves + booklet in a clam box presentation as well.

Re: Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

Thanks Paul. As soon a s you said it was on As The Dream Faded I remembered it. What a great comp that is and what a fantastic band they were.

Re: Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

I find this a very strange compilation - some bog standard and already comped 45s mixed with unreleased at the time stuff. Doesn't make sense to me.

Re: Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

A combination of familiar and obscure stuff then. Isn't that what most box sets are like?

Re: Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

I think it's a collaboration between RPM, Tenth Planet / Wooden Hill and Sunbeam Records. Hence a lot of obscure stuff from the Wooden Hill catalogue, some of the demo / unissued at the time bonus tracks from artist athologies on Sunbeam and the more standard re-cycled 45s from RPM. I guess it's just another way of re-assembling stuff from discreet catalogues and making a wider compilation approach with them. The sort of thing you might do with your own collection for an Ipod playlist, but here made more materially attractive.

Re: Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

Just seems like a missed opportunity. Anyone even vaguely interested in this will already have many of these tracks - why re-comp things that have appeared numerous times on Rubbles? That is just lazy. It could have been a great comp using only unreleased at the time stuff, perhaps with a few obscure LP tracks thrown in.

Re: Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

I'd imagine using some more familiar tracks was done for commercial reasons. A box of unreleased at the time tracks would sell to the hardcore collector (all 50 of us!), but it wouldn't reach the more mainstream or casual fan or get reviewed in the monthly music magazines like Uncut and Mojo. Anyone who has ever done any work for a reissue label will know that it's always a compromise. Personally, I think that any label that puts out a box like this should be applauded rather than criticised.

Re: Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

I think it would be an ideal buy for folks ( and I'm sure there are some ) who are just starting to dip a toe or two into Rubble territory and, liking what they've heard, want to hear more of the same...
They've certainly chosen some good tracks...my personal fave songs from The Sorrows, Jason Crest & Consortium cd's on Wooden Hill all feature here and if they're trying to entice the casual buyer into checking out the catalogues of these great reissue labels, then fair play to em...

Re: Love, Poetry & Revolution 3 x cd box

Yep, fair enough, I shouldn't really complain if people are putting this stuff out and keeping this music alive. It's an interesting looking comp and I was being mealy mouthed.
