Re: Great 2 sided 45s that are off the radar

This is kind of the topic of my column in Write Hear, but since that's more about b-sides, I'll list a few personal double sided faves:
Argosy: Imagine/ Mr.Boyd
Velvet Opera: Theres a hole in my pocket/ she keeps giving me these feelings
Terry Britten: 2,000 weeks/Bargain Day
Freedom: Where Will You be Tonight/Trying to get a glimpse of you
Toast: Flowers Never Bend With the Rainfall/ Summer of Mrand
The Exselsior Spring: Happy Miranda/ It
The Tickle: Subway/ Good Evening
The Quotations: Hello Memories/ Pretend
Jon Plum: you Keep Changing Your Mind/ An Apple Falls
These are 45s where the b-side pleases me pretty much as much as the a-side.

Re: Great 2 sided 45s that are off the radar

Well, of course this can be highly subjective. However, I have looked through the list of my my 45s and come up with quite a few. I've stuck to UK 45s and here are my selections for B-M (couldn't find any UK double siders under 'A' that were not more 'fampus'). I'll now scour N-Z. These are in my opinion good double siders. That is to say I like the B side as much as the A side. I've stuck to 1965-70 largely, or I would have gone into a whole other realm of junk shop glam as well. These are not largely psych obvisouly, but pop and beat sometimes from the same era. I've tried to avoid anything too obvious but there again what's obvious to one person someone else may never have heard.

Re: Great 2 sided 45s that are off the radar

I am very much liking a record by Tracey Dean I do not know if this is band name or vocalist name but the two sounds are Moonshiner & Boy On The Ball. Interesting mix of psych and glamrock and vocals very similar to Sharkey from Undertones but this came out many years before. Any here know it or have more info for me?
Best, Eggy

Re: Great 2 sided 45s that are off the radar

Hi eggy,
Welcome to the wonderful world of junk shop glam. All manner of below the radar boot stompers, Bowie wannabe’s, producers taking a shot at a one-off alter image etc. in the 1970s

Tracey Dean aka P.J Hollywood was in fact Pete Bellotte who worked with Donna Summer, Janet Jackson etc. But before all that he was Tracey Dean. See two links below.

Tracey Dean - Moonshiner

for pic sleeves of Moonshiner – sound files not there though.

If you’re interested or anyone else is – I long ago compiled a comp from my own junk shop glam 45s of the most uber-tub thumping, terrace boot stompers from around the European 1970s inclusing Tracey Dean's 'Moonshiner'and called it ‘Glam Slam’ You can d/l it from my dropbox here:

Re: Great 2 sided 45s that are off the radar

Thanks for that Paul, its only recently ive ventured into the world of glam,i bought a cd titled Velvet Tinmine,i thoroughly enjoyed it and am open to other cd comps or artistes albums what may tickle the glitterball in me.I did get introduced by a good guy on here to the glam(and hard rock) sounds of The Sweet albums,so i've bought a few Sweet albums which do feature a mix of glam and hard rock....I think someone mentioned The Glitter Band on here a wee while ago, what is their best album??I feel sorry for the Glitter Band as a mention of glitter always seem too remind folk of that horrible excuse for a human being Gary Glitter(i personally wouldve hung him up by his balls).See what i mean ,i just couldnt resist mentioning the odious git.

Sorry!!!I bet they're a pretty good band on their own.Open to suggestions.

By the way Paul what a fab list of good double siders!!!!!

Re: Great 2 sided 45s that are off the radar

Hi Stuart,
Junkshop Glam comps on CD are all a few years old now. The more recent comps have been on vimyl ('Glam Stains Across Europe' Vols.1 & 2 for instance). However, CD comps that I would recommend if you enjoyed Velvet Tinmine are:

Glitter From The Litterbin (Pye sides) (Sanctuary)
Blitzing The Ballroom – 20 UK power glam incendiaries (Psychic Circle PCCD7021)
Boobs! The Junkshop Glam Discoteque (RPM)
Clap Your Hands and Stamp Your Feet: 24 Nederglam tracks from the early 70s (Excellsior, Nederlands)- easy to find in Uk though

There's another on RPM I can't recall the name of at the moment as well.

Also, for the hard rockin' stuff (like the Sweet B Sides of the 73-8 era) I would definitely point you towards the much overlooked album from 1977 - Slade - 'Whatever Happened To Slade?' On this one they are a match for any hard rock band of the era. It was reissued by Salvo a few years ago on CD along with all their back catalogue. The Glitterband albums have been reissued on the Cherry Red umbrella imprint '7Ts' label, so you should find them easily enough on Amazon etc. Also try forgotten Glitter Band fan-band 'Hello' also reissued by 7Ts.

Thank you so much for this Paul! I never thought would be Bellotte! I wonder if he has much else like this style?

I will download all when I get home Friday.
