Rare 60s Beat Treaures Vol.10 CD

Of German origin. I've a few of the others in this series, not a bad selection on most of them. I don't know all of the singles listed here, so I'm open to it. The Jasmin T cut is nice and swingy and I've never heard the A side (Juicy Lucy) of the Sheephouse single (B side 'The Ladder' is a killer). Not sure why Jimmy Curtiss 'Psychedleic Situation' is in this volume though. Perhaps it was issued in UK as well? Hunt around for this comp if it appeals. This one was listed on the Bear Family (Germany) site, but they have sold from Germany on ebay UK.

Re: Rare 60s Beat Treaures Vol.10 CD

Thanks for this Paul. I have most of the vols of this series. I find them quite interesting in that they can go from early beat sides to heavier psych prog in the same vol and I like that in a comp sometimes. I wonder what source those tracks are from, sometimes you can hear little giveaways that it's a needle drop and other times I'm wondering if somehow they've got access to the tapes because the sound on these discs is very good. Bear Family did a similar set of Cd's of soul stuff and got the masters for Atlantic and Motown tracks and the Bear Family re- masters are said to sound better than the cd's put out by the labels themselves.

Re: Rare 60s Beat Treaures Vol.10 CD

Yes, I agree, this series runs the whole gamut from beat to psyche on each volume -there's even an Anita Harris single on one volume that doesn't sound out of place! Re Sheephouse, there must be a story there. They seem only to have relesed one 45 (in 1971) on Decca but they did other stuff for them on acetate at least:

Sheephouse – Ladder (45 version)

Sheephouse – Ladder alt vocal (acetate)

Sheephouse – Hole In The Sky (acetate)

No-one seems to have uploaded the A side of 'Ladder', 'Juicy Lucy' to Youtube though. I think Richard Moreton jack at Flashback mag ought to seek out someone from the band and get their story.

Here's a preview of "Juicy Lucy" downloaded from a torrent a few years ago (it came incomplete for some reason). It's more of a straight forward rock boogie song, but gets the toe tapping.

Thanks for that Doc, that's the first time I've heard it. Good and typical pop-rockin' number which I like the sound of.
