Good to see you back, but what's this the Progmeister goes pop sike?
Hi Wally have you any gems you have come across while you been away in the clink lol
now look here!
Ah'rm askin' YOUSE fer info, nort otha waay raand.
Popsike is such a broad term Wallace. Can you give an idea of what you already have or what you think fits into this genre. Some may include Kaleidoscope as popsike, some may think of it as psych.
What about freakbeat, which is of course a more recently coined term. Do you have anything in that area?
Aye Freakbeat - gibbit here.
(But I don't like too much lovey-lovey lyrics. That's fer skirt to list to.)
Ages ago Phil turned me on to Pillbugs which is a real wick group. That's the sound ah'rm aftah.
Ahh so we're talking current bands not 60s?
Yep. Current bands.
Dont like garage. Don't like an American-vibe.
Any recent VA comps that are any good (not just major rehash)?
Okay, seeing as you're not getting too much of a response Wallace I'll chuck a few names at you. Can check them out on you tub or spotify I'm sure. Opinions differ of course. If you want more info on album titles let me know.
Last 10 years or so
Dolly Rocker Movement
The See See
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard
Guide By Voices
Dukes Of Stratosphear
Soundtrack Of Our Lives
for me Starry eyed and laughing is well worth checking out great Bryds sounding group from UK also worth checking out Steves stuffs posts for info on different artists he has great taste
I know both Starry Eyed.
Baby Woodrose is a band I particularly despise. Don't like Chemstry Set either.
Fast Camels is good!
Prescriptions - Psychedelicatessen. Best neo-psych pop LP and cheap to get. On UK Target from 1993. Small press, big pleasures.
Both Olivia Tremor Control LPs - get lost in their multi-layered psych pop dream weavery.
Tame Impala - Innerspeaker
Edie: Just seen, last 2 years. Don't know anything recent to tell you about.
some one who caught my ear lately has been Jane Weaver well worth searching out for a listen here's a you tube link to one of her albums
If you want to go back to the 80's there's the excellent Emergency Third Rail Power Trip by Rain Parade. Did have a couple of other very good ones too but this is my favourite.
You'd swear that Starry Eyed's version of Dylan's-Forever Young was actually The Byrds.
