Discogs banning bootleg sales?

Found a post on VeryGoodPlus, and actually:
https://www.discogs.com/Human-Instinct-Burning-Up-Years/release/3313848?utm_campaign=sell-blocked-release&utm_medium=pm&utm_source=transactional

First time I see this, there are huge amounts of bootlegs on sale there, so maybe they need a word from the rights owner?

and not only bootleg it looks, even promo album not for sale!

Re: Discogs banning bootleg sales?

Interesting. I wonder if eBay are being pressurised to do the same? Of course, eBay are much bigger and more powerful than Discogs, so they would presumably be a lot harder to intimidate!

Re: Discogs banning bootleg sales?

On ebay you can have items removed for a single vendor, somehow it works. I don't think it works on Amazon, plentu of pirate cds there too. But if I red well, on the second link, they are not talking about a bootleg but about a legit promo album "not for sale" at the time of its pressing...!

I think they've misunderstood. The album in question is Elvis Costello's 'Live At The El Mocambo' LP, which was an incredibly limited Canadian-only promo pressing in the late 70s. It was almost immediately heavily counterfeited around the world. Originals hardly ever turn up, but the bootleg version is still widely available. So people on the Discogs board are complaining about a promo album being banned, but it's actually a bootleg copy of a promo album that's being banned...

Re: Discogs banning bootleg sales?

They are supposed to sell the site so they clean it ip before.
