Two songs from the 60's - 'Terry' and 'Leader of the Pack'

OK. What's the point of this post? Well, I'm bored and got nothing better I want to do than reflect on all those years ago when these simple songs imprinted themselves on my brain, despite them both being very dubiously worthy of retaining memories of them in the canyons of my mind for over 50 years. I had to banish them to the deepest cellars of my consciousness up until now.
Yes, I still consider them rather poor songs that dirty old or not so old men persuaded these girls to sing [for blatantly exploitative reasons - to get into their knickers and/or to make money.] After all, it was the 60's. Still, they're worth a spin. [The records. Not the knickers!]

Twinkle (born Lynn Annette Ripley, 15 July 1948, Surbiton, England):

Well, three girlies the manipulaive men could try to take advantage of. Especially the totally gorgeous blond lass lead singer, I guess.
Hilarious! The poor dude casted to ride a piss poor 'motorbike' that doesn't seem to work! Dunno what sort of pack he's supposed to lead. Maybe a pack[or flock] of sheep? So funny!

Twinkle is way more than her single Terry for anyone into sixties female singers she is worth checking out..her album Golden Lights is a cracking album

Re: Two songs from the 60's - 'Terry' and 'Leader of the Pack'

Twinkle composed most of her songs. I enjoy her Golden Lights and Michael Hannah CDs. Mike d'Abo produced some of her songs. She passed away in 2015. She was interviewd in a documentary on Camilla Parker Bowles whom she went to school with.
I'm a big fan of the Shangri-Las. Saw them in 1965 on the Dick Clark Caravan. When singing Leader of the Pack, one of the Zombies would start up a motorcycle off stage.

As for The Shangri-La's i particularly like (Remember) Walking In The Sand. Australian 60s band MPD Limited do a great garage rave up version too.

Re: Two songs from the 60's - 'Terry' and 'Leader of the Pack'

I absolutely love MPD Ltd.’s blistering version of “Little Boy Sad” originally by Johnny Burnette.

Re: Two songs from the 60's - 'Terry' and 'Leader of the Pack'

They also did a great version of Paul Anka's- Lonely Boy.

Re: Two songs from the 60's - 'Terry' and 'Leader of the Pack'

Well, thank you people for giving your appreciative views of these two songs that I didn't personally think were all that special any more. To be fair, I know Twinkle had some self-penned songs later that were better but by that time my musical taste had changed and was veering well away from commercial mainstream music. As for Leader of the Pack, I actually bought it [and Terry] as I was beginning to see the emotive power of music and the song made me cry at the sad story. But that 'video' with the duff 50cc 'motorbike' and the look on the guy's face just cracked me up! As a kid I had a great intro to music education from my Dad [ballads, skiffle, blues, trad jazz etc] and from a lovely Aunt and Uncle who drip fed me all their old rock 'n' roll records.
I also remember how a few other songs like Elvis singing 'Old Shep' were so moving they moved me to tears. Maybe the first one was a song in an old black and white movie called Captains Courageous [1937 and before anyone asks, no. I'm not that old!] where the hurdygurdy playing fishing boat owner [Spencer Tracy] plays the 'don't cry little fish' song to the young spoilt rich kid he rescued from the sea. It's actually called Manuel's Love Song.

Yes Steve, that video is very amusing.
