Jingle Jangle

I'm curious as to which Jingle Jangle albums by a single group/artist are on your favourite list I know a few of you love this genre so it would be nice to read of your selections

Re: Jingle Jangle

anything by Starry Eyed and Laughing more Byrds than the Byrds?:slightly_smiling_face:

PM

Re: Jingle Jangle

Yep agree there Paul superb band anyone who hasnt heard their music and likes the BYrds are missing out

Re: Jingle Jangle

Yep agree. The Searchers possibly started it all.

Re: Jingle Jangle

Starry Eyed and Laughing stick a mile out for me,one of the more obvious groups heavily influenced by The Byrds in general, and very good they were too, theres been a few posthumous cd releases containing recordings from this group that just stamps out what a top quality group they were, heaven knows why groups like them were not much much bigger than they where!!Brilliant music by excellent songwriters and musicians!!!I feel theres a few UK albums heavilly influenced by the Crosby,Stills and Nash(and sometimes young)sound also, the likes of the debut Unicorn album Uphill all the way,Dozy,Beaky,Mick and Tichs Fresh Ear album, the album by Mason titled Starting as we mean To Go On.(which has a D,B,M&T connection)Just 3 from the top of my head!!!

Re: Jingle Jangle

Good to read such solid appreciation of Starry Eyed and Laughing. All there albums are classics, to me.
Tony Poole [the man behind the jingle jangle of that Rickenbacker 12 string guitar sound] has been in a new band for a while now - the superb Bennett Wilson Poole. That's Tony, mid picture:

Loads of stuff on youtube by them. If you enjoy, get their album.

Re: Jingle Jangle

For current practitioners of Jingle Jangle, you can't go wrong with The Young Sinclairs from Roanoke, Virginia US of A.
Highly recommended - even though they lack the pure Byrdsian harmonies. Still very good vocally, nonetheless.

Re: Jingle Jangle

Never Heard of The Young Sinclairs so will have to look them up Thanks for that Mark and Steve and all the others
Yep just checked The Young Sinclairs out they sound like The Byrds do shoegaze really nice sounding band

Re: Jingle Jangle

One of the best rock/folk bands who had a jangly sound were The Dovers from Santa Barbara. They released four singles without a dud track.
Their singles are impossible to find, but if you've got a lazy 7000 pounds laying around there's a copy of their last single, the psych masterpiece, The Third Eye going on Discogs at the moment.

Re: Jingle Jangle

Thanks Greg - The Dovers are cool in a nice nostalgic way. I see that for investors only there's a copy of The Third Eye/Your Love on discogs for the bargain price of merely £1,960.

A bit nearer to a good deal is all four of their singles on the 10" mono LP on the Misty Lane Records label [released 2001]. There's a mint one on discogs for about £36 including P&P.

Re: Jingle Jangle

Thanks Steve I'll check em out love the kitties on the turntable

Re: Jingle Jangle

Yes Steve, have that Dovers 10". The only way I can afford any of their stuff and even that's creeping up in value now.

And as for The Records-UK power pop royalty. Ex members of Magic Muscle and Kursaal Flyers. Shades In Bed is a great album.
