For current practitioners of Jingle Jangle, you can't go wrong with The Young Sinclairs from Roanoke, Virginia US of A.
Highly recommended - even though they lack the pure Byrdsian harmonies. Still very good vocally, nonetheless.
Good to read such solid appreciation of Starry Eyed and Laughing. All there albums are classics, to me.
Tony Poole [the man behind the jingle jangle of that Rickenbacker 12 string guitar sound] has been in a new band for a while now - the superb Bennett Wilson Poole. That's Tony, mid picture:
Loads of stuff on youtube by them. If you enjoy, get their album.
Never Heard of The Young Sinclairs so will have to look them up Thanks for that Mark and Steve and all the others
Yep just checked The Young Sinclairs out they sound like The Byrds do shoegaze really nice sounding band
One of the best rock/folk bands who had a jangly sound were The Dovers from Santa Barbara. They released four singles without a dud track.
Their singles are impossible to find, but if you've got a lazy 7000 pounds laying around there's a copy of their last single, the psych masterpiece, The Third Eye going on Discogs at the moment.
Thanks Greg - The Dovers are cool in a nice nostalgic way. I see that for investors only there's a copy of The Third Eye/Your Love on discogs for the bargain price of merely £1,960.
A bit nearer to a good deal is all four of their singles on the 10" mono LP on the Misty Lane Records label [released 2001]. There's a mint one on discogs for about £36 including P&P.
