You Keep Me Hanging On ?

Listen to Rod Stewarts version the organ intro is to die for

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jK4iKWpgfyo

is it better than the original?

Re: You Keep Me Hanging On ?

Nice one, Phil. Rod did good with this. Better invites competition and mere opinions into the discussion, so I'll just say I'm pleased they're so different and that his and the original Supremes recordings are both excellent!

There are other versions of the song but in my opinion none outclass them like the quite incredible reinvention achieved by Vanilla Fudge.

Their drummer Carmine Appice worked with Rod Stewart and played on Rod's version of the song, which rather explains why he covered it in that way!

Spawned in 1966 out of Long Island, N.Y., initially under the overwhelming influence of the British Invasion, the quartet composed of Mark Stein (vocals and keyboards), Vince Martell (guitar), Tim Bogert (bass and vocals) and Carmine Appice (drums) would duly morph into pioneering psychedelic rockers and build a bridge between psych and prog.

To save this thread from further divertion from it's subject, when I can I'll start a Vanilla Fudge post.

Cheers Phil. Didn't know about them.

Re: You Keep Me Hanging On ?

Just out of curiosity I was wondering who else had recorded 'Keep Me Hanging On'. Amazingly, I find there are 102 in English, one each in Dutch, Finnish, Spanish and Turkish, 3 in French and 2 in Italian - 1 of which is by the Supremes, which has the most abysmal pseudo-stereo effect I've ever heard! So that's 110 or 111 if we include the multilingual Supremes second effort.

As I'm sure most of you will know, this song as well as the majority of Motown masterpieces was composed by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland who also produced the majority of Motown recordings.
