RIP Alan Merrill

Sad to report he succumbed to the horrid Coronavirus thinking he just had a cold. Forever remembered for the should have been greater band The Arrows (I remember their mid 70s TV show) and providing Joan Jet with a hit single in 'I Love Rock 'n' Roll'. I prefer to remember his debut (Japan only?) album from 1971 and the lovely track 'Tranquility'. Here it on youtube:

Re: RIP Alan Merrill

sad... he was also in the great Streak at the beginning... This song sounds great!
if anyone has the whole album ... many thanks, I can't find all the tracks on the tube..

Re: RIP Alan Merrill

Yes Gian, Streak were an excellent band and still so unknown outside of junk shop glam collectors. There is enough material (both singles and unreleased recordings) to make a modest anthology from. Robin Wills of the Purepop webiste is a great supporter of them.:slightly_smiling_face:

Not psych, but another musician has died from this bloody virus.

Released three singles OSP, but he appears to have used a different name.

Re: RIP Alan Merrill

Hi Phil,
The Purepop blog page has a lot on them:

http://purepop1uk.blogspot.com/search?q=streak

Also another of Merill's pre- Arows bands Vodka Collins (Japanese again). Robin Wills who runs the Purepop blog is a big fan of Streak and acquired acetates of unreleased recordings a few years back, some of which if I remember rightly found their way on to the vinyl only Ultimate Bonehead series.

Re: RIP Alan Merrill

Sorry, it's

Ultimate Bonehead Crunchers Vol.3 (LP)
Streak – Cadillac Jack
Streak – The Whole Truth

Re: RIP Alan Merrill

I had a CDR once with all the known Streak recordings on it (at that time anyway). No idea what happened to it but I just found the track list, with thanks to Robin Wills for originally putting these up on his blog:

Streak – Anthology 1972-1973
01. Bang Bang Bullet (A Side Deram 45 1972)
02. Black Jack Man (B side Deram 45 1972)
03. Gonna Have A Good Time (A side A&M 45 1973)
04. Be Your Rider (B side A&M 45 1973)
05. Hard Times (In New York City)
Bonus track on B side of demo copies of A&M 45 1973
06. Cadilac Jack (partial) acetate (Full version on Ultimate Bonehead Vol.3 LP)
07. Blind Truth (partial) acetate (Full version on Ultimate Bonehead Vol.3 LP)

Re: RIP Alan Merrill

Enough for a compilation there Paul. See that there was a 1970s Vodka Collins then a reformed 1990s version.

Re: RIP Alan Merrill

Probably for the Japanese market in the '90s.

Re: RIP Alan Merrill

I've managed to get hold of the Streak Anthology so if anyone wants it leave a note and I will post here

Alan Merril real name is Allan Preston Sachs and for what I found he was only in the very first line-up of Streak (in NYC), could be that one or more songs recorded by this line-up are in the The Arrows & Friends ‎– Tawny Tracks CD, can't find a detailed track listing for this release. So all the Deram/A&M of the 11 trcks comp. should be without Merrill

Re: RIP Alan Merrill

track list for the Tawney Tracks CD is on Discogs:
