Re: DG TOP 100 '22 15-1

Yes 2022 held it's own musically though I sense the trend is for genre separation at the moment, it would be nice for a few more bands to experiment with a fusion of styles such as popsike & prog or either with soul. I would consider in a few weeks doing a combined retrospective Top 100 for 2020/2021 but would need to be sure there was sufficient enthusiasm for it.

Re: DG TOP 100 '22 15-1

The main musical fusions I'm seeing from new bands include psych crossed with folk, stoner, indie, prog, alternative, space, desert, shoegazer/ambient, drone, noise and the hugely popular Psy-trance. However I have reservations about bands that produce excellent psych tracks on an album and then ruin the continuity by adding in filler material from a completely different genre. I'm not that keen on music that just rambles on with just the occasional key change to vary the monotony. As with most musical development and trends there are many bands that just copy the same old riffs leaving me thinking I've heard this all before. Electronic music is a great medium for psychedelic music as it's kinda quirky in the first place and the psychedelic inclusion works well alongside.

I for one would welcome another 100 "samplers" to dig into.

Of course you're right Mark there is plenty of crossover music out there and it is a matter of finding the time to research and resource, just like back in the day when we listened to radio shows such as those presented by Andy Kershaw & the late great Charlie Gillett. One of the most pleasing aspects of last years music, for me anyway, was the high standard of songwriting in the popsike arena - plenty of top wordsmiths out there. As for 2020/21 there will be a few curve balls included, after all it covers the peak period of the pandemic and maybe a few tracks hit in a more 'spiritual' way - having said that it will again mostly be dominated by those most influenced by Syd Barrett... lol.

By far the best fusion of electronic with psychedelic came between 1991 and 1993 with UK hardcore/techno in my opinion. Do a search for the Brain Eaters comps on Youtube for examples.

Re: DG TOP 100 '22 15-1

Before I forget, Mark pointed out an error for #12 in pt 5 - the name of the band is Surreal Prismatics and not Plasmatics, so apologies to the band for that.

Click on each one and videos of the tracks in order are down the right hand side, though maybe not for volume 1.

Re: DG TOP 100 '22 15-1

There are 16 volumes in total, only half have been uploaded to Discogs as yet.
