Ponderings from our very own Dr. Diana Brevan for today

Dear Partners World Wide, I bring to you my (Dr. Diana Brevan) ponderings this today. May the Lord richly bless you and yours as we go right into to today’s ponderings prayer and the Word.

TRUE FREEDOM Jan 16 2015
Matthew 5:4 (NKJV) Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
In this beatitude, Jesus is talking about those who mourn over their sin. This is a godly sorrow that produces repentance and leads to salvation. 2 Corinthians 7:10 (NKJV) says, “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death”.

Do you remember the story of King David? How he sinned? He had an affair with Bathsheba which was wrong in the first place, but in order to cover it up, he had Bathsheba’s husband killed. Did you know that David felt sorrow, remorse, guilt, and shame for what he had done? He mourned over his sin. In fact, in Psalm 51 David expresses how he felt about his sin.
Psalms 51:4 (NKJV) “Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight—that You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge”.
In all the evil David did, God forgave Him and restored Him. When we sin we should feel guilty. We should mourn over our sin. We should take it to God, for the Scripture says that if we confess our sin to Him, we “shall be comforted.”
Look at what 1 John 1:9 (NKJV) says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.
Now once we ask our Heavenly Father to forgive us we need to let it go. If we don't, then we go from godly sorrow to condemnation and that is not for New Testament believers. This is the great comfort that He has given us and it's called FREEDOM. In Romans 8:1-2 (NASB) it says, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death”.
So, if you messed up, and we all do at one time or another, ‘fess up and let Him restore you as He has done for so many others. Remember, there is no verdict of guilty to those who are in Christ Jesus. You are free because of Him today, so let Jesus be your comfort.
Confession: I am free today because of Jesus. At the cross Jesus bore my sins and defeat, and as I keep Him first in my life and confess my shortcomings, He forgives and restores.

HUMILITY OF HEART Jan 17 2015
Matthew 5:3 (NKJV) “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Let’s begin today with the first attitude to be in our lives, the attitude of humility. By talking about being “poor in spirit” Jesus is saying that this is the opposite of self-sufficiency. “Poor in spirit” speaks of those who realize that they are totally helpless and lost, apart from God. The person who is poor in spirit realizes his own utter helplessness without the Lord and puts his whole trust in God.
When we think we are OK because we are a “good person” we are depending on our own self righteousness. But self righteousness will not make you happy. Self righteousness will not get you into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Apart from God we are totally lost. It is only by God’s grace that we can be saved. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast”.
We have to remember that going to church will not save us. Reading our Bibles will not save us. Praying will not save us. Only a relationship with Jesus will save us. Only making Him Lord of our lives will save us. Good works are good but salvation only comes through faith in Jesus Christ.
John 14:6 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”.
When we come to this place of knowing that all we are and ever will be is because of Jesus, life takes a big turn for the better. Being poor in heart, this true humility of soul, says, “Lord, You are the great Shepherd. I have messed up my life in so many ways. Today, I give it to you and I know that You will make a success out of it”.
That is true humility. That is knowing that He is Lord, and giving Him the lordship of your life. So today, don't back down, go ahead and live the abundant life by being poor in spirit. When we’re poor in spirit we’re rich in life because He gives us His Kingdom.
Confession: Today, I let humility of heart rule within me. Today, I give Jesus lordship of my life and I know that He will guide me in the best path for my life.
