JESUS IS LORD FELLOWSHIP WORLD WIDE INTERNATIONAL
Where we make a difference in People’s lives

Opening Prayer
Lord as we gather this day we ask that you bless those that are delivering your word especially our Senior Pastor Dr Diana Brevan. We also ask that all those receiving your word will do so with a open heart and that your message will be written in their spirit,

We also hold up the Leadership of Jesus is Lord Fellowship and pray that you will build a hedge of protection around their lives.

Why not join us in a couple of songs such as

America the Beautiful O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

The Star Spangled Banner

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

A Voice From The Grave

Hebrews 11:4

Introduction…

Memorial Day is a day for remembering! It’s a day we set aside to remember our veterans and those who’ve fallen in battle!

It’s a day to remember those who’ve sacrificed and given their lives to keep us free!

I know our nation has its share of problems, but it’s still the best nation in the world!

For those of us who’ve been privileged enough to live in America, we ought to thank God for that blessing everyday!

Thank God for every soldier that’s ever gone off to battle; for every man and woman who’s ever left their home and families for this great cause; for every fallen comrade that ever gave his life to ensure the freedoms that you and I enjoy!

Thank God we’re still a land of the free and the home of the brave!

Body…

As we’re remembering those who’ve fallen in battle, it would be good to remember Abel who was the first casualty in a righteous cause!

Abel was the first fallen hero of all mankind – he fell in a battle that ensued with his brother, Cain!

It was Cain who killed Abel because his sacrifice wasn’t accepted while Abel’s was!

The Bible says that though dead, yet he speaks! What is it that Abel wants to say? What thoughts would he convey to you and I today?

It would do us well to revisit his grave and listen to what he has to say to us on this Memorial Day weekend!
I. Abel Speaks To Us Of The Effects Sin Can Have On A Life…

Cain allowed sin to take hold of his heart and he killed his brother Abel!

I don’t believe Cain started out to commit murder, but sin is like that – when you give yourself to it you never know where you’ll end up!

As a result, God placed a mark on Cain and he ended up being a vagabond, separated from God and running for the rest of his days.

The scripture records Cain as saying, “My punishment is more than I can bear”. But not only Cain, but Abel and even their parents suffered as well!

Much of what we suffer in life is due to sin – the sin of others and the sins of ourselves!

That’s the way sin is – it’s deceptive! It appears acceptable and right at the time but it always ends in death!

“When lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin, etc.” (Jam.1:15).

So what does Abel want us to know? What sin can do to a life – rob us of God’s best both in this life and in eternity!

You can’t have sin in your life and be saved!

“And there shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a life: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Rev.21:27).

It’s not worth it to give your life to sin – it’ll end in death every time!

Though we’ve all sinned and come short, I’m glad there’s forgiveness with God – If we’ll confess our sins, etc.

II. Abel Speaks to Us Of The Shortness Of Life…

Abel was just a young man when he died! He’d not yet nearly begun to live out all his days!

His life was cut down like a budding rose before its time!

We know death is a reality, and it’s appointed unto man once to die, but we’re made to believe it’s only for the old and aged – not so!

If you read the obituaries you’ll discover it’s for young people too!

We don’t’ know what tomorrow has in store!

“Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time and then, etc. (Jam.4:13-14).

Even if you live out all your days, how quickly life passes!

“Seventy years are given to us, some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away” (Ps.90:10).

Even you live till 80, what is that in the long march of time? That’s why we have to live every day as if it were our last, etc.!

David gave good advice: “Teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom” (Ps.90:12).

“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom”.

Abel wants us to realize that we may not live to be 70 and that we’ve got to be ready at all times! Are you ready to meet the Lord?

III. Abel Speaks To Us Of The Salvation Of A Life…

• First, Abel stands as a testimony of a life that refused to offer less than his best!

When we read of Abel we find him in Heb.11 among the other heroes of faith – when Cain was doing things that weren’t acceptable, Abel was righteous anyway!

There’re a lot of people that are just going with the flow because others are doing it and it seems acceptable, but not everybody’s compromising!

Some are going to offer sacrifices short of God’s standard and say it’s alright, but others are going to fight to keep their lives holy unto the Lord.

Abel wants us to know we can live for God, and that we can offer sacrifices that are acceptable in the face of those who say it’s not necessary!

• Second, Abel stands as a testimony of one more Satan couldn’t get!

Though Abel died early, he died saved and right with God!

I know “…hell hath enlarged herself and opened her mouth without measure”, but Abel’s life says you don’t have to be lost!
There’s salvation to those who come to Him in faith!

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom.6:23).

What Abel wants us to know is, you don’t have to be lost – there’s salvation for your soul!

There’s a gospel that saves and there’s a God that will keep that which we’ve committed to Him against that day!

Maybe the enemy has told you that you can’t make it – don’t believe it!

You’ve just got to make up your mind:
1. I’m going all the way
2. Nothing is going to separate me
3. When I fall I’m getting back up
4. When I fail I’m going back to the altar

IV. Abel Speaks To Us Of The Influence Of A Life…

Abel didn’t just die – though dead, the righteous life he lived lives on and continues to speak to us even today!

The good he did in his short life on earth will always be remembered and will continue to impact future generations!

The greatness of a man isn’t only determined by what he does in life, but what he does in death and beyond. Some men live and die and are forgotten, but others pass away yet their influence continues to touch lives even beyond the grave.

That’s what makes influence so powerful – it affects us whether we want to be affected or not!!

It’s not the length of your life that matters as much as it is the good you do with the time you’ve been given, so you have to live to the best of your ability because it’s the only thing that will outlast time!

“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them” (Rev.14:13).

Whatever good we do for God in this life won’t only follow us on into eternity but will continue live on and impact those still alive!

The Bible says, “We’re also compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses” (Heb.12:1) – he’s talking about those who’ve already finished the race and now encouraging us to do the same!

Can you still hear their voice and feel their influence?

Several years ago, we buried my Grandpa. He wasn’t a rich man but he was a Godly man, and though gone, his godliness, humility, strong convictions, tenacity, sense of humor and dedication to his family still continues to influence me to this day.

The last thing Grandpa would say every time I’d see him was, “If we don’t meet again over here, we’ll meet again when we get over there.”

The very last thing he said to me Friday before he died on Sunday was, “Eternity is a long time – when we all get over there we’ll have plenty of time to be together”.

When I leave this life, like Abel, I want the good I did to continue to have an impact on my children and theirs to come!

Closing…

What is it that Abel wants us to know?
1. Sin will destroy us
2. Life is so short
3. We don’t have to be lost
4. Our influence can live on
