“Yes, in the way of Your judgments, O LORD, we have waited for You; The desire of our soul is for Your name And for the remembrance of You. With my soul I have desired You in the night, Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early; For when Your judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.-“ - Isaiah 26:8-9
Our Heavenly FATHER,
This was part of a song of praise that YOUR people of old sang because YOU did great things in delivering them from their enemies. It was taught in this verse that we are to walk with YOU and wait for YOU in the worst and darkest times.
It has always been the practice of YOUR people, even when YOU frowned upon them, to keep up a constant dependence upon YOU: We cannot appeal from YOUR justice but to YOUR mercy. If YOUR judgment continue long, if it be a road of judgments, we must not be weary but continue to wait. Regardless, we want to send up holy desires toward YOU. Our troubles, how pressing they may be, must never put us out of conceit with our duty, nor turn us away from YOU; but still the desire of our soul must be to YOUR name and to the remembrance of YOU; and in the night, the darkest and longest night of affliction, with our souls, we must look to YOU and desire YOU. FATHER, our greatest concern is for YOUR name, and our earnest desire is that YOUR name may be glorified, regardless of what becomes of us and our names. This is that which we must wait for, and pray for. "Father, glorify YOUR name”, and we are satisfied. The remembrance of YOU must be our great support and pleasure; and, though sometimes we be unmindful of YOU, yet still our desire must be toward the remembrance of YOU and we must take pains with our own hearts to have YOU always in mind. FATHER, this desire toward YOU is inward, fervent, and sincere Even in the darkest night of affliction our desire is toward YOU as our sun and shield. We seek YOU early seeking him early and desire to find YOU, and dread the thoughts of missing YOU. We know that the intention of any affliction we have is to teach us righteousness; and blessed is the man whom YOU chasten, and thus teach! Thank YOU FATHER, we value these waiting times as YOU continue to teach us!
