Good Morning Scripture Devotional

Intimate fellowship with Him
1 John 1:1-4
The one who existed from the beginning is the one we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is Jesus Christ, the Word of life. 2 This one who is life from God was shown to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and announce to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was shown to us. 3 We are telling you about what we ourselves have actually seen and heard, so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that our joy will be complete.

John is writing to second generation Christians who had not seen or had not been with Christ. They were moving away from fellowship with God and forgetting that Christ came to give us a relationship with Him and not mere knowledge of Him. As time moved forward many were coming to faith who had only heard about Christ and had not been with Him as John had been. That is us today as 21st century Christians. John was also writing to us. In order for us to have fellowship with Christ we have to have fellowship with the information the apostles left us. This is the Word that Christ gave to us in order for us to know Him. Intimate fellowship with God always brings joy regardless of our circumstances because our life is in Him and not in the situation. Jesus stated in John 10:10, “My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” Move from mere knowledge about Christ to intimate fellowship with Him by knowing what was told to us from those who were with Him when He was a man. When we know His Word, we will know Him and we will have joy.
