“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.” – 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Our Heavenly FATHER,
WE appreciate these passages. In this first verse we see what affects the heart or emotion. Language without love is noise without melody or chatter without charity. Even if we sing like a seraph but not have love, it is just a hiss from hell. Love is what gives meaning, depth and reality and it is what YOU want us to have. In the second passage we still what affects the mind or intellect. Having the gift of prophecy, understanding, mysteries and knowledge. There are many organizations in the world that prides themselves with the smartest teachers and academics but yet, without love, they are nothing. Instead of filled with love, some of our fundamental churches are filled with gossip, bitterness and jealousies and we know these are hurtful to YOU. Forgive them FATHER, for they not know how bad they are. Again, the hiss of hell. In the third verse we see the act of volition or will. Our ambition to help, our ambition to sacrifice, our gifts of tongues, knowledge, understanding, even our abundance of faith – ALL MEAN ZERO – nothing _ without love. It is like a list of zeros, they are worth nothing, unless we put a one in front of them and then each zero means something of great value. FATHER we are praying that each fruit, each gift, that everything we do and everything we have been given, will mean something great. But, we must have love. May we feel YOUR love upon us, and imitate the love of our MASTER, who showed us the greatest example of it. FATHER, please remove any insincerities we may have and forgive us if ever the noise or gift we have resembles a hiss of hell. YOU are love and we are asking that YOU shine in us!
