Ponderings from our very own Dr. Diana Brevan for today

Dear Partners World Wide, I bring to you my (Dr. Diana Brevan) ponderings this today. May the Lord richly bless you and yours as we go right into to today’s ponderings prayer and the Word.
FOR THEY ARE LIFE TO THOSE WHO FIND THEM 11-23-18

Proverbs 4:20-23 (NKJV) 20 My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.

Life is what we want! Jesus said in the second part of John 10:10 ”…I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” God wants us to have a good, full life; a life filled with Himself; a life of victory and success.

So how do we have this? This verse says that we get life when we find the Word. His Word is like a treasure. You can get good things from it by reading it, but the true wealth of His Word comes as we dig into it.

Look at Psalm 19:10: “More to be desired are they then gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” His Word must become more valuable to us than the riches of this world, and when we put His Word in that high of a place in our lives, God, our dear Father, takes care of all the needs that we have.

His Word is life to us, so let us start digging into it and see what treasures we might find today. You might ask, “What does that mean, to dig into the Word?” Well, it means to not just read it, but to let it change us. We are not blessed because we hear the Word; we are blessed when we do it. So when you find a verse that you know needs to come alive within you, hang out there for a while. Read it, ponder it, and then do it, and it will become life to you!

Confession: God’s Word is life to me, because I have found it. I am a doer of the Word, and not a hearer only. I put His Word in my heart, and it is life to me and to all my being.

DO NOT LET THEM DEPART FROM YOUR EYES 11-24-18

Proverbs 4:20-23 (NKJV) 20 My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.

So, we have seen that we need to give the word of God our attention, and we are to tilt our ear towards it. Now it says that we are not to let it depart from our eyes. Well, how can we do something like this? Can we just walk around with a Bible attached to our head so we are looking at it all day long? No, I do not think our bosses, or others, would like that.

I believe He is saying to get the Word in our hearts so we can see it all day long. We can write verses out and put them in our pocket, or different places, so that we will see it, and we can put it on our screen saver on our computer so it jumps out at us, but there is something about getting God’s Word in our hearts so that you see it all the time.

As we meditate on and ponder the Word of God, it stays before us no matter where we are. The thing that I love is that when you need a verse, it just happens to come up at the right time. Jesus said in John 14:26: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” Let us get the Word in our heart, and it will not depart from our eyes.

Confession: I make a decision to get God’s Word in my heart and as I do, it will always be before my eyes. When I need His Word to help me, it will come up at the right time.

INCLINE YOUR EAR TO MY SAYINGS 11-25-18

Proverbs 4:20-23 (NKJV) 20 My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.

Ok, let us move on to the next part of verse 20: “Incline your ear to my sayings.” Think about this: we listen to so many people during the course of our lives, yet the Words of Almighty God are the greatest words that we can listen to. Jesus said in John 6:63 that the words that He speaks to us are spirit, and they are life.

The word incline means to tilt, to tip, or slant. I love that! We are to tilt our ear to the Word of God. Have you ever been with someone, and you could not hear them really well? What did you do? Most likely, you tilted your ear towards them so you could hear them better. This is what God wants us to do concerning His Word.

As we read the Word, or hear it being preached, let us tilt our ear towards it so we get the fullness of God's meaning out of it. Jesus said it like this in Mark 4:9: “And He said to them, ‘He who has ears to hear, let him hear!’" Sometimes we hear, but we do not truly hear. We hear everything that our mind has going, but we do not hear what God wants us to hear, and that hinders us.

So today, make a decision to tilt your ear to His voice speaking through His Word.
Confession: Today, I tilt my ear towards God’s Word. I give it my attention, and I listen to what the Spirit is saying to me. His Word is life to me, and I fill myself with it.
