Dear Partners World Wide, I bring to you my (Dr. Diana Brevan) ponderings this today. May the Lord richly bless you and yours as we go right into to today’s ponderings prayer and the Word.
The Struggle With Guilt
1 John 1:5-9
Guilt is an interesting emotion. It can also be a spiritually deadly one. The subject of guilt has long been debated in theological circles as scholars try to decide whether any good can come from feel-ing guilty.

While the apostle Paul does not directly address the subject of guilt when he writes, "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus," he certainly attempts to relieve us of the emotion of feeling guilty over our past and present failures. (Romans 8:1)

If God does not condemn us, what right do we have to condemn ourselves? First John 1:9 reminds us that when we confess our sins to God, He is faithful to apply His forgiveness to each infraction.

Perhaps for a moment in time, guilt has its benefits. When we do violate God's moral law, we feel guilty. This should lead to conviction, and then on to confession and repentance. But don't allow yourself to get caught in the guilt trap.

God has a provision for you in the area of guilt. Through His Son you have been forgiven, and it is His desire that you experience tremendous freedom and hope. Guilt should never rule your life.

Whatever you have done, leave it at the foot of the Cross and receive His marvelous free gift of grace. This is the only answer to guilt.
