Ecclesiastes 11-12

11 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
12 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
2 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
3 In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
4 And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
5 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
8 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.
9 And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
10 The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

11 Echa tu pan sobre las aguas, porque después de muchos días lo volverás a encontrar.
2 Reparte a siete, y también a ocho; porque no sabes qué mal vendrá sobre la tierra.
3 Si las nubes se recargan de agua, derramarán lluvia sobre la tierra. Y si el árbol cae hacia el sur o hacia el norte, en el lugar donde caiga, allí quedará.
4 El que observa el viento no sembrará, y el que se queda mirando las nubes no segará.
5 Como tú no comprendes cómo entra el espíritu a los huesos en el vientre de la mujer encinta, así no comprenderás la obra de Dios quien hace todas las cosas.
6 En la mañana siembra tu semilla y por la tarde no dejes reposar tu mano; porque tú no sabes cuál será mejor, si esto o lo otro, o si ambas cosas son igualmente buenas.
7 Agradable es la luz y bueno es a los ojos ver el sol.
8 Si el hombre vive muchos años, alégrese en todos ellos; pero traiga a la memoria los días de las tinieblas que serán muchos. Todo lo que habrá ocurrido es vanidad.
Exhortación para los jóvenes
9 Alégrate, joven, en tu adolescencia, y tenga placer tu corazón en los días de tu juventud. Anda según los caminos de tu corazón y según la vista de tus ojos, pero ten presente que por todas estas cosas Dios te traerá a juicio. 10 Quita, pues, de tu corazón la ansiedad y aleja de tu cuerpo el mal; porque la adolescencia y la juventud son vanidad.
12 Acuérdate de tu Creador en los días de tu juventud:
antes que vengan los días malos,
y lleguen los años de los cuales digas: “No tengo en ellos contentamiento”;
2 antes que se oscurezcan el sol y la luz
de la luna y de las estrellas, y las nubes vuelvan tras la lluvia;
3 cuando tiemblen los guardias de la casa y se dobleguen los hombres valerosos; cuando estén inactivas las muelas, por quedar pocas, y se oscurezcan los que miran por las ventanas;
4 cuando se cierren las puertas de la calle y se debilite el ruido del molino; cuando uno se levante ante el gorjeo de un pajarito y todas las hijas del cantosean abatidas;
5 cuando también se tenga miedo de la
altura y haya horrores en el camino; cuando florezca el almendro, la langosta se arrastre pesadamente
y se pierda el deseo.
Es que el hombre se va a su morada eterna, y los que hacen duelo rondan
alrededor de la plaza.
6 Acuérdate de él
antes que se rompa el cordón de plata y se destroce el tazón de oro;
antes que el cántaro se quiebre junto
al manantial, y la rueda se rompa sobre el pozo.
7 Es que el polvo vuelve a la tierra, como era; y el espíritu vuelve a Dios, quien lo dio.
8 “Vanidad de vanidades”, dijo el Predicador ; “todo es vanidad”.
Conclusión del discurso
9 Y cuanto más sabio fue el Predicador , tanto más enseñó sabiduría al pueblo. También sopesó, investigó y compuso muchos proverbios. 10 El Predicador procuró hallar palabras agradables y escribir correctamente palabras de verdad.
11 Las palabras de los sabios son como aguijones, y como clavos hincados son las palabras que forman parte de una colección y que son expuestas por un Pastor.
12 Además de esto, hijo mío, queda advertido: El hacer muchos libros es algo sin fin, y el mucho estudio fatiga el cuerpo.
13 La conclusión de todo el discurso oído es esta: Teme a Dios y guarda sus mandamientos, pues esto es el todo del hombre. 14 Porque Dios traerá a juicio toda acción junto con todo lo escondido, sea bueno o sea malo.
