Proverbs 13

13 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

13 El hijo sabio acepta la disciplina

de su padre,
pero el burlador no escucha
la corrección.
2 Del fruto de su boca el hombre comerá el bien,
pero el alma de los traicioneros hallará el mal.
3 El que guarda su boca guarda su vida, pero al que mucho abre sus labios
le vendrá ruina.
4 El alma del perezoso desea
y nada alcanza,
pero el alma de los diligentes será prosperada.
5 El justo aborrece la palabra de mentira, pero el impío se hace odioso
y trae deshonra.
6 La justicia guarda al íntegro de camino, pero la impiedad arruina al pecador.
7 Hay quienes pretenden ser ricos, pero no tienen nada;
y hay quienes pretenden ser pobres, pero tienen muchas riquezas.
8 Las riquezas del hombre pueden ser el rescate de su vida,
pero el pobre ni oye las amenazas.
9 La luz de los justos brilla con alegría, pero la lámpara de los impíos
se apagará.
10 Ciertamente la soberbia
producirá contienda,
pero con los que admiten consejo está la sabiduría.
11 Las riquezas apresuradas disminuirán, pero el que junta poco a poco
irá en aumento.
12 La esperanza que se demora
es tormento del corazón,
pero el deseo cumplido
es árbol de vida.
13 El que menosprecia la palabra
se arruinará,
pero el que teme el mandamiento será recompensado.
14 La instrucción del sabio
es fuente de vida,
para apartarse de las trampas
de la muerte.
15 El buen entendimiento da gracia, pero el camino de los traicioneros
es duro.
16 Todo hombre sagaz actúa
con conocimiento,
pero el necio despliega insensatez.
17 El mensajero impío caerá en el mal, pero el enviado fiel es como medicina.
18 Pobreza y vergüenza tendrá
el que desprecia la disciplina,
pero el que acepta la reprensión
logrará honra.
19 El deseo cumplido endulza el alma, pero el apartarse del mal es abominación a los necios.
20 El que anda con los sabios se hará sabio, pero el que se junta con los necios sufrirá daño.
21 El mal perseguirá a los pecadores, pero el bien recompensará a los justos.
22 El bueno dejará herencia a los hijos
de sus hijos,
pero lo que posee el pecador
está guardado para los justos.
23 En el campo arado de los pobres hay abundancia de comida,
pero es arrasada cuando
no hay derecho.
24 El que detiene el castigo
aborrece a su hijo,
pero el que lo ama se esmera
en corregirlo.
25 El justo come hasta saciar su alma, pero el estómago de los impíos sufrirá necesidad.
