THE PARABLE OF THE WEDDING FEAST
22 And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. 4 Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.” ’ 5 But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. 6 And the rest seized his servants, treated them [a
]spitefully, and killed them. 7 But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. 9 Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ 10 So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. 12 So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, [b
]take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
THE PHARISEES: IS IT LAWFUL TO PAY TAXES TO CAESAR?
15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk. 16 And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not [c
]regard the person of men. 17 Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
18 But Jesus [d
]perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? 19 Show Me the tax money.”
So they brought Him a denarius.
20 And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”
21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”
And He said to them, “Render[e
] therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 22 When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.
THE SADDUCEES: WHAT ABOUT THE RESURRECTION?
23 The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him, 24 saying: “Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. 25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died after he had married, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother. 26 Likewise the second also, and the third, even to the seventh. 27 Last of all the woman died also. 28 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “You are [f
]mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels [g
]of God in heaven. 31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” 33 And when the multitudes heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.
THE SCRIBES: WHICH IS THE FIRST COMMANDMENT OF ALL?
34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
JESUS: HOW CAN DAVID CALL HIS DESCENDANT LORD?
41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?”
They said to Him, “The Son of David.”
43 He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying:
44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool” ’?
45 If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?” 46 And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.

PARÁBOLA DEL BANQUETE DE BODAS
22 Jesús respondió y les volvió a hablar en parábolas diciendo:
2 —El reino de los cielos es semejante a un rey que celebró el banquete de bodas para su hijo. 3 Envió a sus siervos para llamar a los que habían sido invitados a las bodas, pero no querían venir. 4 Volvió a enviar otros siervos, diciendo: “Digan a los invitados: ‘He aquí, he preparado mi comida; mis toros y animales engordados han sido matados, y todo está preparado. Vengan a las bodas’ ”. 5 Pero ellos no le hicieron caso y se fueron, uno a su campo, otro a su negocio; 6 y los otros tomaron a sus siervos, los afrentaron y los mataron. 7 El rey se enojó, y enviando sus tropas mató a aquellos asesinos y prendió fuego a su ciudad. 8 Entonces dijo a sus siervos: “El banquete, a la verdad, está preparado, pero los invitados no eran dignos. 9 Vayan, pues, a las encrucijadas de los caminos y llamen al banquete de bodas a cuantos hallen”. 10 Aquellos siervos salieron por los caminos y reunieron a todos los que hallaron, tanto buenos como malos; y el banquete de bodas estuvo lleno de convidados.
11 »Pero cuando entró el rey para ver a los convidados y vio allí a un hombre que no llevaba ropa de bodas, 12 le dijo: “Amigo, ¿cómo entraste aquí, sin llevar ropa de bodas?”. Pero él quedó mudo. 13 Entonces el rey dijo a los que servían: “Átenlo los pies y las manos, y échenlo en las tinieblas de afuera”. Allí habrá llanto y crujir de dientes; 14 porque muchos son los llamados, pero pocos los escogidos.
PREGUNTA SOBRE EL TRIBUTO AL CÉSAR
15 Entonces se fueron los fariseos y consultaron cómo podrían enredarle en alguna palabra. 16 Después enviaron a él discípulos de ellos, junto con los herodianos, diciendo:
—Maestro, sabemos que eres hombre de verdad, que enseñas el camino de Dios con verdad y que no te cuidas de nadie; porque no miras la apariencia de los hombres. 17 Dinos, pues, ¿qué te parece? ¿Es lícito dar tributo al César o no?
18 Pero Jesús, entendiendo la malicia de ellos, les dijo:
—¿Por qué me prueban, hipócritas? 19 Muéstrenme la moneda del tributo.

—¿De quién es esta imagen y esta inscripción?
21 Le dijeron:
—Del César.
Entonces él les dijo:
—Por tanto, den al César lo que es del César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.
22 Al oír esto, se maravillaron; y dejándole, se fueron.
PREGUNTA ACERCA DE LA RESURRECCIÓN
23 Aquel día se le acercaron unos saduceos, quienes dicen que no hay resurrección, y le preguntaron diciendo:
24 —Maestro, Moisés dijo: Si alguno muere sin tener hijos, su hermano se casará con su mujer y levantará descendencia a su hermano[b
]. 25 Había, pues, siete hermanos entre nosotros. El primero tomó mujer y murió y, como no tenía descendencia, dejó su mujer a su hermano. 26 De la misma manera sucedió también con el segundo y el tercero, hasta los siete. 27 Después de todos, murió también la mujer. 28 En la resurrección, puesto que todos la tuvieron, ¿de cuál de los siete será mujer?
29 Entonces respondió Jesús y les dijo:
—Están equivocados porque no conocen las Escrituras, ni tampoco el poder de Dios; 30 porque en la resurrección no se casan ni se dan en casamiento sino que son como los ángeles que están en el cielo. 31 Y acerca de la resurrección de los muertos, ¿no han leído lo que les fue dicho por Dios? 32 Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob[c
]. Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos.
33 Al oír esto, las multitudes estaban atónitas de su doctrina.
EL GRAN MANDAMIENTO
34 Entonces los fariseos, al oír que había hecho callar a los saduceos, se reunieron de común acuerdo. 35 Uno de ellos, intérprete de la ley, preguntó para probarle:
36 —Maestro, ¿cuál es el gran mandamiento de la ley?
37 Jesús le dijo:
—Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma[d
] y con toda tu mente. 38 Este es el grande y el primer mandamiento. 39 Y el segundo es semejante a él: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo[e
]. 40 De estos dos mandamientos dependen toda la Ley y los Profetas.
JESÚS, HIJO Y SEÑOR DE DAVID
41 Habiéndose reunido los fariseos, Jesús les preguntó 42 diciendo:
—¿Qué piensan acerca del Cristo? ¿De quién es hijo?
Le dijeron:
—De David.
43 Él les dijo:
—Entonces, ¿cómo es que David, mediante el Espíritu, le llama “Señor”? Pues dice:
44 Dijo el Señor a mi Señor:
“Siéntate a mi diestra,
hasta que ponga a tus enemigos
debajo de tus pies”[f
].
45 Pues, si David le llama “Señor”, ¿cómo es su hijo?
46 Nadie le podía responder palabra, ni nadie se atrevió desde aquel día a preguntarle más.
