The Temptation and Fall of Man
3 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
12 Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
13 And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent:
“Because you have done this,
You are cursed more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly you shall go,
And you shall eat dust
All the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”
16 To the woman He said:
“I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception;
In pain you shall bring forth children;
Your desire shall be for your husband,
And he shall rule over you.”
17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’:
“Cursed is the ground for your sake;
In toil you shall eat of it
All the days of your life.
18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you,
And you shall eat the herb of the field.
19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return.”
20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
21 Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
22 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
Cain Murders Abel
4 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the Lord.” 2 Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
6 So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”
He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
10 And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground. 11 So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.”
13 And Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear! 14 Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me.”
15 And the Lord said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.
The Family of Cain
16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son—Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech.
19 Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. 20 And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. 22 And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
23 Then Lamech said to his wives:
“Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
Wives of Lamech, listen to my speech!
For I have killed a man for wounding me,
Even a young man for hurting me.
24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,
Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”
A New Son
25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” 26 And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.

Desobediencia de la primera pareja
3 Entonces la serpiente, que era el más astuto de todos los animales del campo que el SEÑOR Dios había hecho, dijo a la mujer:
—¿De veras Dios les ha dicho: “No coman de ningún árbol del jardín”?
2 La mujer respondió a la serpiente:
—Podemos comer del fruto de los árboles del jardín. 3 Pero del fruto del árbol que está en medio del jardín ha dicho Dios: “No coman de él ni lo toquen, no sea que mueran”.
4 Entonces la serpiente dijo a la mujer:
—Ciertamente no morirán. 5 Es que Dios sabe que el día que coman de él, los ojos les serán abiertos, y serán como Dios, conociendo el bien y el mal.
6 Entonces la mujer vio que el árbol era bueno para comer, que era atractivo a la vista y que era árbol codiciable para alcanzar sabiduría. Tomó, pues, de su fruto y comió. Y también dio a su marido que estaba con ella, y él comió. 7 Y fueron abiertos los ojos de ambos, y se dieron cuenta de que estaban desnudos. Entonces cosieron hojas de higuera, y se hicieron delantales.
8 Cuando oyeron la voz del SEÑOR Dios que se paseaba por el jardín en la brisa del día, el hombre y su mujer se escondieron de la presencia del SEÑOR Dios entre los árboles del jardín. 9 Pero el SEÑOR Dios llamó al hombre y le preguntó:
—¿Dónde estás tú?
10 Él respondió:
—Oí tu voz en el jardín y tuve miedo, porque estaba desnudo. Por eso me escondí.
11 Le preguntó Dios:
—¿Quién te dijo que estabas desnudo? ¿Acaso has comido del árbol del que te mandé que no comieras?
12 El hombre respondió:
—La mujer que me diste por compañera, ella me dio del árbol, y yo comí.
13 Entonces el SEÑOR Dios dijo a la mujer:
—¿Por qué has hecho esto?
La mujer dijo:
—La serpiente me engañó, y comí.
14 Entonces el SEÑOR Dios dijo a la serpiente:
—Porque hiciste esto, serás maldita entre todos los animales domésticos y entre todos los animales del campo. Te arrastrarás sobre tu vientre y comerás polvo todos los días de tu vida. 15 Y pondré enemistad entre ti y la mujer, y entre tu descendencia y su descendencia; esta te herirá en la cabeza, y tú la herirás en el talón.
16 A la mujer dijo:
—Aumentaré mucho tu sufrimiento en el embarazo; con dolor darás a luz a los hijos. Tu deseo te llevará a tu marido, y él se enseñoreará de ti.
17 Y al hombre dijo:
—Porque obedeciste la voz de tu mujer y comiste del árbol del que te mandé diciendo: “No comas de él”, sea maldita la tierra por tu causa. Con dolor comerás de ella todos los días de tu vida; 18 espinos y cardos te producirá, y comerás plantas del campo. 19 Con el sudor de tu frente comerás el pan hasta que vuelvas a la tierra, pues de ella fuiste tomado. Porque polvo eres y al polvo volverás.
20 El hombre llamó el nombre de su mujer Eva , porque ella sería la madre de todos los vivientes.
21 Luego el SEÑOR Dios hizo vestidos de piel para Adán y para su mujer, y los vistió. 22 Y el SEÑOR Dios dijo:
—He aquí que el hombre ha llegado a ser como uno de nosotros, conociendo el bien y el mal. Ahora pues, que no extienda su mano, tome también del árbol de la vida, y coma y viva para siempre.
23 Y el SEÑOR Dios lo arrojó del jardín de Edén, para que labrara la tierra de la que fue tomado. 24 Expulsó, pues, al hombre y puso querubines al oriente del jardín de Edén, y una espada incandescente que se movía en toda dirección, para guardar el camino al árbol de la vida.
Historia de Caín y Abel
4 El hombre conoció a Eva su mujer, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Caín . Entonces ella dijo: “¡He adquirido un varón de parte del SEÑOR Dios!”. 2 Después dio a luz a su hermano Abel. Abel fue pastor de ovejas; y Caín, labrador de la tierra.
3 Aconteció después de un tiempo que Caín trajo, del fruto de la tierra, una ofrenda al SEÑOR. 4 Abel también trajo una ofrenda de los primogénitos de sus ovejas, lo mejor de ellas. Y el SEÑOR miró con agrado a Abel y su ofrenda, 5 pero no miró con agrado a Caín ni su ofrenda. Por eso Caín se enfureció mucho, y decayó su semblante. 6 Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Caín:
—¿Por qué te has enfurecido? ¿Por qué ha decaído tu semblante? 7 Si haces lo bueno, ¿no serás enaltecido? Pero si no haces lo bueno, el pecado está a la puerta y te seducirá; pero tú debes enseñorearte de él.
8 Caín habló con su hermano Abel . Y sucedió que estando juntos en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel y lo mató. 9 Entonces el SEÑOR preguntó a Caín:
—¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel?
Y respondió:
—No sé. ¿Soy yo acaso el guarda de mi hermano?
10 Le preguntó:
—¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra. 11 Ahora pues, maldito seas tú, lejos de la tierra que abrió su boca para recibir de tu mano la sangre de tu hermano. 12 Cuando trabajes la tierra, ella no te volverá a dar su fuerza. Y serás errante y fugitivo en la tierra.
13 Caín dijo al SEÑOR:
—¡Grande es mi castigo para ser soportado! 14 He aquí que me echas hoy de la faz de la tierra, y me esconderé de tu presencia. Seré errante y fugitivo en la tierra, y sucederá que cualquiera que me halle me matará.
15 El SEÑOR le respondió:
—No será así . Cualquiera que mate a Caín será castigado siete veces.
Entonces el SEÑOR puso una señal sobre Caín, para que no lo matara cualquiera que lo hallara. 16 Así partió Caín de delante del SEÑOR, y habitó en la tierra de Nod, al oriente de Edén.
Descendientes de Caín
17 Caín conoció a su mujer, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Enoc. Caín edificó una ciudad a la cual llamó según el nombre de su hijo Enoc. 18 A Enoc le nació Irad. E Irad engendró a Mejuyael. Mejuyael engendró a Metusael. Y Metusael engendró a Lamec.
19 Lamec tomó para sí dos mujeres. El nombre de la una fue Ada; y el nombre de la otra, Zila. 20 Ada dio a luz a Jabal, quien llegó a ser el padre de los que habitan en tiendas y crían ganado. 21 El nombre de su hermano fue Jubal, quien llegó a ser padre de todos los que tocan el arpa y la flauta. 22 Zila también dio a luz a Tubal-caín, maestro de todos los que trabajan el bronce y el hierro. Y la hermana de Tubal-caín fue Naama. 23 Entonces Lamec dijo a sus mujeres:
“Ada y Zila, oigan mi voz.
Oh mujeres de Lamec, escuchen mi dicho:
Yo maté a un hombre, porque me hirió;
maté a un muchacho, porque me golpeó.
24 Si Caín ha de ser vengado siete veces,
Lamec lo será setenta y siete veces”.
Descendientes de Set
25 Adán conoció de nuevo a su mujer, y ella dio a luz un hijo y llamó su nombre Set , diciendo: “Porque Dios me ha sustituido otro hijo en lugar de Abel, a quien mató Caín”. 26 A Set también le nació un hijo, y llamó su nombre Enós . Entonces se comenzó a invocar el nombre del SEÑOR.
