Isaac Is Born
21 And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken. 2 For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. 3 And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him—whom Sarah bore to him—Isaac. 4 Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5 Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. 6 And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me.” 7 She also said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”
Hagar and Ishmael Depart
8 So the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the same day that Isaac was weaned.
9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing. 10 Therefore she said to Abraham, “Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, namely with Isaac.” 11 And the matter was very displeasing in Abraham’s sight because of his son.
12 But God said to Abraham, “Do not let it be displeasing in your sight because of the lad or because of your bondwoman. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac your seed shall be called. 13 Yet I will also make a nation of the son of the bondwoman, because he is your seed.”
14 So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water; and putting it on her shoulder, he gave it and the boy to Hagar, and sent her away. Then she departed and wandered in the Wilderness of Beersheba. 15 And the water in the skin was used up, and she placed the boy under one of the shrubs. 16 Then she went and sat down across from him at a distance of about a bowshot; for she said to herself, “Let me not see the death of the boy.” So she sat opposite him, and lifted her voice and wept.
17 And God heard the voice of the lad. Then the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. 18 Arise, lift up the lad and hold him with your hand, for I will make him a great nation.”
19 Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad a drink. 20 So God was with the lad; and he grew and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. 21 He dwelt in the Wilderness of Paran; and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.
A Covenant with Abimelech
22 And it came to pass at that time that Abimelech and Phichol, the commander of his army, spoke to Abraham, saying, “God is with you in all that you do. 23 Now therefore, swear to me by God that you will not deal falsely with me, with my offspring, or with my posterity; but that according to the kindness that I have done to you, you will do to me and to the land in which you have dwelt.”
24 And Abraham said, “I will swear.”
25 Then Abraham rebuked Abimelech because of a well of water which Abimelech’s servants had seized. 26 And Abimelech said, “I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, nor had I heard of it until today.” 27 So Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made a covenant. 28 And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.
29 Then Abimelech asked Abraham, “What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs which you have set by themselves?”
30 And he said, “You will take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, that they may be my witness that I have dug this well.” 31 Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because the two of them swore an oath there.
32 Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba. So Abimelech rose with Phichol, the commander of his army, and they returned to the land of the Philistines. 33 Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there called on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God. 34 And Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines many days.
Abraham’s Faith Confirmed
22 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”
And he said, “Here I am.”
2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. 5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.”
6 So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. 7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!”
And he said, “Here I am, my son.”
Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
8 And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
9 Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
11 But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”
So he said, “Here I am.”
12 And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
15 Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, 16 and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— 17 blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. 18 In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” 19 So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
The Family of Nahor
20 Now it came to pass after these things that it was told Abraham, saying, “Indeed Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: 21 Huz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram, 22 Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.” 23 And Bethuel begot Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother. 24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Thahash, and Maachah.

Nacimiento de Isaac
21 Visitó Jehová a Sara, como había dicho, e hizo Jehová con Sara como había hablado. 2 Y Sara concibió y dio a Abraham un hijo en su vejez, en el tiempo que Dios le había dicho. 3 Y llamó Abraham el nombre de su hijo que le nació, que le dio a luz Sara, Isaac. 4 Y circuncidó Abraham a su hijo Isaac de ocho días, como Dios le había mandado. 5 Y era Abraham de cien años cuando nació Isaac su hijo.
6 Entonces dijo Sara: Dios me ha hecho reír, y cualquiera que lo oyere, se reirá conmigo. 7 Y añadió: ¿Quién dijera a Abraham que Sara habría de dar de mamar a hijos? Pues le he dado un hijo en su vejez.
Agar e Ismael son echados de la casa de Abraham
8 Y creció el niño, y fue destetado; e hizo Abraham gran banquete el día que fue destetado Isaac. 9 Y vio Sara que el hijo de Agar la egipcia, el cual esta le había dado a luz a Abraham, se burlaba de su hijo Isaac. 10 Por tanto, dijo a Abraham: Echa a esta sierva y a su hijo, porque el hijo de esta sierva no ha de heredar con Isaac mi hijo. 11 Este dicho pareció grave en gran manera a Abraham a causa de su hijo. 12 Entonces dijo Dios a Abraham: No te parezca grave a causa del muchacho y de tu sierva; en todo lo que te dijere Sara, oye su voz, porque en Isaac te será llamada descendencia. 13 Y también del hijo de la sierva haré una nación, porque es tu descendiente. 14 Entonces Abraham se levantó muy de mañana, y tomó pan, y un odre de agua, y lo dio a Agar, poniéndolo sobre su hombro, y le entregó el muchacho, y la despidió. Y ella salió y anduvo errante por el desierto de Beerseba.
15 Y le faltó el agua del odre, y echó al muchacho debajo de un arbusto, 16 y se fue y se sentó enfrente, a distancia de un tiro de arco; porque decía: No veré cuando el muchacho muera. Y cuando ella se sentó enfrente, el muchacho alzó su voz y lloró. 17 Y oyó Dios la voz del muchacho; y el ángel de Dios llamó a Agar desde el cielo, y le dijo: ¿Qué tienes, Agar? No temas; porque Dios ha oído la voz del muchacho en donde está. 18 Levántate, alza al muchacho, y sostenlo con tu mano, porque yo haré de él una gran nación. 19 Entonces Dios le abrió los ojos, y vio una fuente de agua; y fue y llenó el odre de agua, y dio de beber al muchacho. 20 Y Dios estaba con el muchacho; y creció, y habitó en el desierto, y fue tirador de arco. 21 Y habitó en el desierto de Parán; y su madre le tomó mujer de la tierra de Egipto.
Pacto entre Abraham y Abimelec
22 Aconteció en aquel mismo tiempo que habló Abimelec, y Ficol príncipe de su ejército, a Abraham, diciendo: Dios está contigo en todo cuanto haces. 23 Ahora, pues, júrame aquí por Dios, que no faltarás a mí, ni a mi hijo ni a mi nieto, sino que conforme a la bondad que yo hice contigo, harás tú conmigo, y con la tierra en donde has morado. 24 Y respondió Abraham: Yo juraré. 25 Y Abraham reconvino a Abimelec a causa de un pozo de agua, que los siervos de Abimelec le habían quitado. 26 Y respondió Abimelec: No sé quién haya hecho esto, ni tampoco tú me lo hiciste saber, ni yo lo he oído hasta hoy. 27 Y tomó Abraham ovejas y vacas, y dio a Abimelec; e hicieron ambos pacto. 28 Entonces puso Abraham siete corderas del rebaño aparte. 29 Y dijo Abimelec a Abraham: ¿Qué significan esas siete corderas que has puesto aparte? 30 Y él respondió: Que estas siete corderas tomarás de mi mano, para que me sirvan de testimonio de que yo cavé este pozo. 31 Por esto llamó a aquel lugar Beerseba; porque allí juraron ambos. 32 Así hicieron pacto en Beerseba; y se levantó Abimelec, y Ficol príncipe de su ejército, y volvieron a tierra de los filisteos.
33 Y plantó Abraham un árbol tamarisco en Beerseba, e invocó allí el nombre de Jehová Dios eterno. 34 Y moró Abraham en tierra de los filisteos muchos días.
Dios ordena a Abraham que sacrifique a Isaac
22 Aconteció después de estas cosas, que probó Dios a Abraham, y le dijo: Abraham. Y él respondió: Heme aquí. 2 Y dijo: Toma ahora tu hijo, tu único, Isaac, a quien amas, y vete a tierra de Moriah, y ofrécelo allí en holocausto sobre uno de los montes que yo te diré. 3 Y Abraham se levantó muy de mañana, y enalbardó su asno, y tomó consigo dos siervos suyos, y a Isaac su hijo; y cortó leña para el holocausto, y se levantó, y fue al lugar que Dios le dijo. 4 Al tercer día alzó Abraham sus ojos, y vio el lugar de lejos. 5 Entonces dijo Abraham a sus siervos: Esperad aquí con el asno, y yo y el muchacho iremos hasta allí y adoraremos, y volveremos a vosotros. 6 Y tomó Abraham la leña del holocausto, y la puso sobre Isaac su hijo, y él tomó en su mano el fuego y el cuchillo; y fueron ambos juntos. 7 Entonces habló Isaac a Abraham su padre, y dijo: Padre mío. Y él respondió: Heme aquí, mi hijo. Y él dijo: He aquí el fuego y la leña; mas ¿dónde está el cordero para el holocausto? 8 Y respondió Abraham: Dios se proveerá de cordero para el holocausto, hijo mío. E iban juntos.
9 Y cuando llegaron al lugar que Dios le había dicho, edificó allí Abraham un altar, y compuso la leña, y ató a Isaac su hijo, y lo puso en el altar sobre la leña. 10 Y extendió Abraham su mano y tomó el cuchillo para ****llar a su hijo. 11 Entonces el ángel de Jehová le dio voces desde el cielo, y dijo: Abraham, Abraham. Y él respondió: Heme aquí. 12 Y dijo: No extiendas tu mano sobre el muchacho, ni le hagas nada; porque ya conozco que temes a Dios, por cuanto no me rehusaste tu hijo, tu único. 13 Entonces alzó Abraham sus ojos y miró, y he aquí a sus espaldas un carnero trabado en un zarzal por sus cuernos; y fue Abraham y tomó el carnero, y lo ofreció en holocausto en lugar de su hijo. 14 Y llamó Abraham el nombre de aquel lugar, Jehová proveerá. Por tanto se dice hoy: En el monte de Jehová será provisto.
15 Y llamó el ángel de Jehová a Abraham por segunda vez desde el cielo, 16 y dijo: Por mí mismo he jurado, dice Jehová, que por cuanto has hecho esto, y no me has rehusado tu hijo, tu único hijo; 17 de cierto te bendeciré, y multiplicaré tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo y como la arena que está a la orilla del mar; y tu descendencia poseerá las puertas de sus enemigos. 18 En tu simiente serán benditas todas las naciones de la tierra, por cuanto obedeciste a mi voz. 19 Y volvió Abraham a sus siervos, y se levantaron y se fueron juntos a Beerseba; y habitó Abraham en Beerseba.
20 Aconteció después de estas cosas, que fue dada noticia a Abraham, diciendo: He aquí que también Milca ha dado a luz hijos a Nacor tu hermano: 21 Uz su primogénito, Buz su hermano, Kemuel padre de Aram, 22 Quesed, Hazo, Pildas, Jidlaf y Betuel. 23 Y Betuel fue el padre de Rebeca. Estos son los ocho hijos que dio a luz Milca, de Nacor hermano de Abraham. 24 Y su concubina, que se llamaba Reúma, dio a luz también a Teba, a Gaham, a Tahas y a Maaca.
