The Corinthians’ Repentance
7 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

The Corinthians’ Repentance
2 Open your hearts to us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one. 3 I do not say this to condemn; for I have said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together. 4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. I am exceedingly joyful in all our tribulation.

5 For indeed, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears. 6 Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, 7 and not only by his coming, but also by the consolation with which he was comforted in you, when he told us of your earnest desire, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more.

8 For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while. 9 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. 12 Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you.

The Joy of Titus
13 Therefore we have been comforted in your comfort. And we rejoiced exceedingly more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all. 14 For if in anything I have boasted to him about you, I am not ashamed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, even so our boasting to Titus was found true. 15 And his affections are greater for you as he remembers the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him. 16 Therefore I rejoice that I have confidence in you in everything.

Excel in Giving
8 Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia: 2 that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality. 3 For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, 4 imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. 5 And not only as we had hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God. 6 So we urged Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete this grace in you as well. 7 But as you abound in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us—see that you abound in this grace also.

Christ Our Pattern
8 I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

10 And in this I give advice: It is to your advantage not only to be doing what you began and were desiring to do a year ago; 11 but now you also must complete the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to desire it, so there also may be a completion out of what you have. 12 For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have.

13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened; 14 but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack—that there may be equality. 15 As it is written, “He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.”

16 But thanks be to God who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus. 17 For he not only accepted the exhortation, but being more diligent, he went to you of his own accord. 18 And we have sent with him the brother whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches, 19 and not only that, but who was also chosen by the churches to travel with us with this gift, which is administered by us to the glory of the Lord Himself and to show your ready mind, 20 avoiding this: that anyone should blame us in this lavish gift which is administered by us— 21 providing honorable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

22 And we have sent with them our brother whom we have often proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, because of the great confidence which we have in you. 23 If anyone inquires about Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker concerning you. Or if our brethren are inquired about, they are messengers of the churches, the glory of Christ. 24 Therefore show to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love and of our boasting on your behalf.

7 Amados míos, puesto que tenemos tales promesas, limpiémonos de toda contaminación de carne y de espíritu, y perfeccionémonos en la santidad y en el temor de Dios.

Regocijo de Pablo ante el arrepentimiento de los corintios
2 Ábrannos su corazón, pues a nadie hemos agraviado, a nadie hemos corrompido, a nadie hemos engañado. 3 No digo esto para condenarlos, pues ya antes les he dicho que están en nuestro corazón. ¡Juntos en la muerte, y juntos en la vida! 4 Soy demasiado franco con ustedes, pero mi orgullo por ustedes también es demasiado. En medio de todas nuestras tribulaciones, me siento muy estimulado y estoy rebosando de alegría.

5 Cuando llegamos de Macedonia, no tuvimos ningún descanso, sino que enfrentamos tribulaciones de todas partes: desde afuera, conflictos; desde adentro, temores. 6 Pero Dios, que consuela a los humildes, nos consoló con la llegada de Tito; 7 y no sólo con su llegada, sino también con el consuelo que él había recibido de parte de ustedes, pues nos habló del gran afecto que recibió por parte de ustedes, así como de su profunda tristeza y de su preocupación por mí, lo cual me hizo alegrarme aún más. 8 Ciertamente, mi carta fue para ustedes motivo de tristeza, y entonces lamenté haberla escrito porque vi que por algún tiempo ella los entristeció; pero ahora no lo lamento 9 sino que me alegro. Y no porque ustedes se hayan entristecido, sino porque esa tristeza los llevó al arrepentimiento. Ustedes fueron entristecidos conforme a la voluntad de Dios, de modo que en nada fueron perjudicados por parte de nosotros. 10 La tristeza que proviene de Dios produce arrepentimiento para salvación, y de ésta no hay que arrepentirse, pero la tristeza que proviene del mundo produce muerte. 11 ¡Fíjense! Esta tristeza que provino de Dios, ¡produjo en ustedes preocupación, el deseo de disculparse, indignación, temor, vehemencia, celo, y deseos de hacer justicia! Es evidente que en este asunto ustedes no tuvieron la culpa. 12 Y aunque yo les escribí, no lo hice por el que cometió el agravio, ni por el que lo padeció, sino para que se hiciera evidente la preocupación que tenemos por ustedes delante de Dios.

13 Por eso el consuelo de ustedes ha sido nuestro propio consuelo. Pero más nos alegró el ver a Tito tan feliz porque su espíritu fue confortado por todos ustedes. 14 Yo me había jactado de ustedes con él, y no he quedado mal. Y así como en todo les hemos hablado con la verdad, también resultaron ciertos los elogios que hice ante Tito acerca de ustedes. 15 Y el cariño que él les tiene es aun mayor cuando se acuerda de la obediencia de todos ustedes, y del temor y temblor con que ustedes lo recibieron. 16 Me alegra poder confiar plenamente en ustedes.

La ofrenda para los santos
8 Hermanos, también queremos contarles acerca de la gracia que Dios ha derramado sobre las iglesias de Macedonia, 2 cuya generosidad se desbordó en gozo y en ricas ofrendas, a pesar de su profunda pobreza y de las grandes aflicciones por las que han estado pasando. 3 Yo soy testigo de que ellos han ofrendado con espontaneidad, y de que lo han hecho en la medida de sus posibilidades, e incluso más allá de éstas. 4 Insistentemente nos rogaron que les concediéramos el privilegio de participar en este servicio para los santos, 5 e hicieron más de lo que esperábamos, pues primeramente se entregaron al Señor, y luego a nosotros, por la voluntad de Dios. 6 Por eso le rogamos a Tito completar la obra de gracia que ya había comenzado entre ustedes. 7 Por lo tanto, ya que ustedes sobresalen en todo, es decir, en fe, en palabra, en conocimiento, en todo esmero, y en su amor por nosotros, sobresalgan también en este acto de amor.

8 No es que les esté dando órdenes, sino que quiero ponderar la sinceridad del amor de ustedes en comparación con la dedicación de otros, 9 pues ustedes ya conocen la gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo que, por amor a ustedes, siendo rico se hizo pobre, para que con su pobreza ustedes fueran enriquecidos. 10 Y ahora, por el bien de ustedes, les doy mi opinión sobre este asunto. Desde el año pasado, ustedes no sólo fueron los primeros en hacer algo sino que deseaban hacerlo; 11 así que ahora, dentro de sus posibilidades, lleven a cabo lo que ya estaban dispuestos a hacer. 12 Porque si hay buena disposición, lo que se da es bien recibido, según lo que uno tiene y no según lo que no tiene. 13 No digo esto para que otros tengan demasiado mientras ustedes sufren de escasez, 14 sino para que en este tiempo la abundancia de ustedes supla, con igualdad, la escasez de ellos, y para que la abundancia de ellos supla la necesidad de ustedes. De este modo habrá igualdad, 15 como está escrito: «El que recogió mucho, no tuvo más, y el que recogió poco, no tuvo menos.»

16 Gracias a Dios, que puso en el corazón de Tito la misma preocupación por ustedes; 17 pues, a decir verdad, aceptó nuestra exhortación, pero estaba más que listo para ir a verlos, y por su propia voluntad. 18 Junto con él, enviamos al hermano a quien todas las iglesias elogian por su trabajo en el evangelio; 19 y no sólo esto, sino que también fue designado por las iglesias como compañero de nuestra peregrinación para llevar este donativo, que es administrado por nosotros para la gloria del Señor mismo, y para demostrar la buena voluntad de ustedes; 20 así evitamos que se nos censure en cuanto a esta abundante ofrenda que administramos, 21 pues procuramos hacerlo todo con honradez, no sólo ante el Señor sino también ante los hombres. 22 Con ellos enviamos también a nuestro hermano, cuya diligencia hemos comprobado repetidas veces en muchas cosas, y que ahora muestra más diligencia por la gran confianza que tiene en ustedes. 23 En cuanto a Tito, él es mi compañero y colaborador para con ustedes; en cuanto a nuestros hermanos, ellos son mensajeros de las iglesias, y son una honra para Cristo. 24 Por lo tanto, ante las iglesias, demuestren a estos hermanos su amor por ellos, y por qué nos sentimos orgullosos de ustedes.
