Repent or Perish

13 There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

6 He also spoke this parable A)“A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7 Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it use up the ground?’ 8 But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. 9 And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can (B)cut it down.’ ”

A Spirit of Infirmity

10 Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. 12 But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your (C)infirmity.” 13 (D)And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

14 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had (E)healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, (F)“There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and (G)not on the Sabbath day.”

15 The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! (H)Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? 16 So ought not this woman, (I)being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” 17 And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were (J)done by Him.

The Parable of the Mustard Seed(K)

18 (L)Then He said, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? 19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.”

The Parable of the Leaven(M)

20 And again He said, “To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three (N)measures of meal till it was all leavened.”

The Narrow Way(O)

22 (P)And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. 23 Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there (Q)few who are saved?”

And He said to them, 24 (R)“Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for (S)many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. 25 (T)When once the Master of the house has risen up and (U)shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, (V)‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, (W)‘I do not know you, where you are from,’ 26 then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ 27 (X)But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. (Y)Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ 28 (Z)There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, (AA)when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out. 29 They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God. 30 (AB)And indeed there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.”

31 On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”

32 And He said to them, “Go, tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day (AC)I shall be perfected.’ 33 Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem.

Jesus Laments over Jerusalem(AD)

34 (AE)“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! 35 See! (AF)Your house is left to you desolate; and assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, (AG)‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”

Llamado al arrepentimiento

13 En aquella misma ocasión, algunos estaban allí contándole de ciertos galileos cuya sangre Pilato había mezclado con la sangre de sus sacrificios. 2 Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: “¿Piensan que estos galileos, porque padecieron estas cosas, habrán sido más pecadores que todos los galileos? 3 Les digo que no; más bien, si ustedes no se arrepienten, todos perecerán igualmente. 4 O aquellos dieciocho sobre los cuales cayó la torre de Siloé y los mató, ¿piensan que ellos habrán sido más culpables que todos los hombres que viven en Jerusalén? 5 Les digo que no; más bien, si ustedes no se arrepienten, todos perecerán de la misma manera”.

Parábola de la higuera estéril

6 Entonces dijo esta parábola: “Cierto hombre tenía una higuera plantada en su viña, y fue a buscar fruto en ella y no lo halló. 7 Entonces le dijo al viñador: ‘He aquí, ya son tres años que vengo buscando fruto en esta higuera y no lo hallo. Por tanto, córtala. ¿Por qué ha de inutilizar también la tierra?’. 8 Entonces él le respondió diciendo: ‘Señor, déjala aún este año hasta que yo cave alrededor de ella y la abone. 9 Si da fruto en el futuro, bien; y si no, la cortarás’ ”.

Jesús sana a una mujer encorvada

10 Jesús enseñaba en una de las sinagogas en el sábado. 11 Y he aquí una mujer que tenía espíritu de enfermedad desde hacía dieciocho años andaba encorvada y de ninguna manera se podía enderezar. 12 Cuando Jesús la vio, la llamó y le dijo:

—Mujer, quedas libre de tu enfermedad.

13 Puso las manos sobre ella, y al instante se enderezó y glorificaba a Dios. 14 Y respondiendo el principal de la sinagoga, enojado de que Jesús hubiera sanado en sábado, decía a la gente:

—Seis días hay en la semana en los cuales se debe trabajar. Vengan, pues, en estos días y sean sanados, y no en el día de sábado.

15 Entonces el Señor le respondió diciendo:

—¡Hipócrita! ¿No desata cada uno de ustedes en sábado su buey o su asno del pesebre y lo lleva a beber? 16 Y esta, siendo hija de Abraham, a quien Satanás ha tenido atada por dieciocho años, ¿no debía ser librada de esta atadura en el día de sábado?

17 Cuando él decía estas cosas, todos sus adversarios se avergonzaban. Y todo el pueblo se regocijaba por todas las cosas gloriosas que él hacía.

Parábola del grano de mostaza

18 Por lo tanto, él decía:

—¿A qué es semejante el reino de Dios? ¿A qué lo compararé? 19 Es semejante a un grano de mostaza que un hombre tomó y sembró en su huerto; y creció y se convirtió en un árbol, y las aves del cielo hicieron nidos en sus ramas.

Parábola de la levadura

20 Otra vez dijo:

—¿A qué compararé el reino de Dios? 21 Es semejante a la levadura que una mujer tomó y escondió en una gran cantidad de harina hasta que todo quedó leudado.

La puerta estrecha de la salvación

22 Jesús pasaba por las ciudades y aldeas enseñando y caminando hacia Jerusalén. 23 Entonces alguien le dijo:

—Señor, ¿son pocos los que se salvan?

Y él les dijo:

24 —Esfuércense a entrar por la puerta angosta, porque les digo que muchos procurarán entrar y no podrán. 25 Después que el dueño de casa se levante y cierre la puerta, ustedes, afuera, comenzarán a llamar a la puerta diciendo: “¡Señor , ábrenos!”. Pero respondiendo él les dirá: “No les conozco de dónde son”. 26 Entonces comenzarán a decir: “Delante de ti hemos comido y bebido, y en nuestras plazas enseñaste”. 27 Pero les hablará diciendo: “No les conozco de dónde son. ¡Apártense de mí todos los que hacen iniquidad!”. 28 Allí habrá llanto y crujir de dientes cuando vean a Abraham, a Isaac, a Jacob y a todos los profetas en el reino de Dios, y a ustedes echados fuera. 29 Vendrán del oriente y del occidente, del norte y del sur; y se sentarán a la mesa en el reino de Dios. 30 He aquí, hay últimos que serán primeros, y hay primeros que serán últimos.

Lamento de Jesús sobre Jerusalén

31 En la misma hora llegaron ciertos fariseos y le dijeron:

—Sal y vete de aquí, porque Herodes te quiere matar.

32 Él les dijo:

—Vayan y díganle a ese zorro: “He aquí echo fuera demonios y realizo sanidades hoy y mañana, y al tercer día termino”. 33 Sin embargo, es necesario que yo siga mi camino hoy, mañana y pasado mañana porque no es posible que un profeta muera fuera de Jerusalén.

34 »¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que te son enviados! ¡Cuántas veces quise juntar a tus hijos, así como la gallina junta sus pollitos debajo de sus alas, y no quisiste! 35 He aquí la casa de ustedes es dejada desierta. Les digo que no me verán más hasta que venga el día cuando digan: “¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor!” .
