1 John 4-5

4 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

19 We love him, because he first loved us.

20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

5 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Discerniendo los espíritus

4 Amados, no crean a todo espíritu, sino prueben si los espíritus son de Dios. Porque muchos falsos profetas han salido al mundo. 2 En esto conozcan el Espíritu de Dios: Todo espíritu que confiesa que Jesucristo ha venido en carne procede de Dios, 3 y todo espíritu que no confiesa a Jesús no procede de Dios. Este es el espíritu del anticristo, del cual han oído que había de venir y que ahora ya está en el mundo. 4 Hijitos, ustedes son de Dios, y los han vencido, porque el que está en ustedes es mayor que el que está en el mundo. 5 Ellos son del mundo; por eso, lo que hablan es del mundo, y el mundo los oye. 6 Nosotros somos de Dios, y el que conoce a Dios nos oye; y el que no es de Dios no nos oye. En esto conocemos el Espíritu de verdad y el espíritu de error.

Dios es amor

7 Amados, amémonos unos a otros, porque el amor es de Dios. Y todo aquel que ama ha nacido de Dios y conoce a Dios. 8 El que no ama no ha conocido a Dios, porque Dios es amor. 9 En esto se mostró el amor de Dios para con nosotros: en que Dios envió a su Hijo unigénito al mundo para que vivamos por él. 10 En esto consiste el amor: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios sino en que él nos amó a nosotros y envió a su Hijo en expiación por nuestros pecados.

11 Amados, ya que Dios nos amó así, también nosotros debemos amarnos unos a otros. 12 Nadie ha visto a Dios jamás. Si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios permanece en nosotros y su amor se ha perfeccionado en nosotros. 13 En esto sabemos que permanecemos en él y él en nosotros: en que nos ha dado de su Espíritu. 14 Y nosotros hemos visto y testificamos que el Padre ha enviado al Hijo como Salvador del mundo. 15 El que confiesa que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, Dios permanece en él, y él en Dios. 16 Y nosotros hemos conocido y creído el amor que Dios tiene para con nosotros.

Dios es amor. Y el que permanece en el amor permanece en Dios y Dios permanece en él. 17 En esto se ha perfeccionado el amor entre nosotros para que tengamos confianza en el día del juicio: en que como él es, así somos nosotros en este mundo. 18 En el amor no hay temor sino que el perfecto amor echa fuera el temor. Porque el temor conlleva castigo, y el que teme no ha sido perfeccionado en el amor. 19 Nosotros amamos porque él nos amó primero. 20 Si alguien dice: “Yo amo a Dios” y odia a su hermano, es mentiroso. Porque el que no ama a su hermano a quien ha visto, no puede amar a Dios a quien no ha visto. 21 Y tenemos este mandamiento de parte de él: El que ama a Dios ame también a su hermano.

La fe victoriosa en Dios

5 Todo aquel que cree que Jesús es el Cristo es nacido de Dios, y todo aquel que ama al que engendró ama también al que es nacido de él. 2 En esto sabemos que amamos a los hijos de Dios, cuando amamos a Dios y guardamos sus mandamientos. 3 Pues este es el amor de Dios: que guardemos sus mandamientos. Y sus mandamientos no son gravosos. 4 Porque todo lo que ha nacido de Dios vence al mundo; y esta es la victoria que ha vencido al mundo: nuestra fe. 5 ¿Quién es el que vence al mundo sino el que cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios?

Testigos del Hijo de Dios

6 Este es Jesucristo, el que vino por agua y sangre ; no por agua solamente sino por agua y sangre. Y el Espíritu es el que da testimonio, porque el Espíritu es la verdad. 7 Porque tres son los que dan testimonio : 8 el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre; y estos tres concuerdan en uno. 9 Si recibimos el testimonio de los hombres, el testimonio de Dios es mayor; porque este es el testimonio de Dios: que él ha dado testimonio acerca de su Hijo. 10 El que cree en el Hijo de Dios tiene el testimonio en sí mismo; el que no cree a Dios lo ha hecho mentiroso porque no ha creído en el testimonio que Dios ha dado acerca de su Hijo. 11 Y este es el testimonio: que Dios nos ha dado vida eterna, y esta vida está en su Hijo. 12 El que tiene al Hijo tiene la vida; el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios no tiene la vida.

Conclusión

13 Estas cosas les he escrito a ustedes que creen en el nombre del Hijo de Dios para que sepan que tienen vida eterna . 14 Y esta es la confianza que tenemos delante de él: que si pedimos algo conforme a su voluntad, él nos oye. 15 Y si sabemos que él nos oye en cualquier cosa que pidamos, sabemos que tenemos las peticiones que le hayamos hecho.

16 Si alguno ve que su hermano comete pecado que no es de muerte, pedirá, y se le dará vida; digo, a los que no pecan de muerte. Hay pecado de muerte acerca del cual no digo que se pida. 17 Toda maldad es pecado, pero hay pecado que no es de muerte.

18 Sabemos que todo aquel que ha nacido de Dios no sigue pecando; más bien, Aquel que fue engendrado de Dios lo guarda y el maligno no lo toca. 19 Sabemos que somos de Dios y que el mundo entero está bajo el maligno. 20 No obstante, sabemos que el Hijo de Dios está presente y nos ha dado entendimiento para conocer al que es verdadero; y estamos en el verdadero, en su Hijo Jesucristo. Este es el verdadero Dios y la vida eterna. 21 Hijitos, guárdense de los ídolos .
