Jesus’ Brothers Disbelieve
7 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him. 2 Now the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles was at hand. 3 His brothers therefore said to Him, “Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. 4 For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.” 5 For even His brothers did not believe in Him.

6 Then Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil. 8 You go up to this feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, for My time has not yet fully come.” 9 When He had said these things to them, He remained in Galilee.

The Heavenly Scholar
10 But when His brothers had gone up, then He also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. 11 Then the Jews sought Him at the feast, and said, “Where is He?” 12 And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him. Some said, “He is good”; others said, “No, on the contrary, He deceives the people.” 13 However, no one spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews.

14 Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. 15 And the Jews marveled, saying, “How does this Man know letters, having never studied?”

16 Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. 17 If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. 18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him. 19 Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?”

20 The people answered and said, “You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill You?”

21 Jesus answered and said to them, “I did one work, and you all marvel. 22 Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. 23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath? 24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

Could This Be the Christ?
25 Now some of them from Jerusalem said, “Is this not He whom they seek to kill? 26 But look! He speaks boldly, and they say nothing to Him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is truly the Christ? 27 However, we know where this Man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from.”

28 Then Jesus cried out, as He taught in the temple, saying, “You both know Me, and you know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know. 29 But I know Him, for I am from Him, and He sent Me.”

30 Therefore they sought to take Him; but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come. 31 And many of the people believed in Him, and said, “When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?”

Jesus and the Religious Leaders
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning Him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take Him. 33 Then Jesus said to them, “I shall be with you a little while longer, and then I go to Him who sent Me. 34 You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come.”

35 Then the Jews said among themselves, “Where does He intend to go that we shall not find Him? Does He intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What is this thing that He said, ‘You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come’?”

The Promise of the Holy Spirit
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Who Is He?
40 Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, “Truly this is the Prophet.” 41 Others said, “This is the Christ.”

But some said, “Will the Christ come out of Galilee? 42 Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?” 43 So there was a division among the people because of Him. 44 Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

Rejected by the Authorities
45 Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why have you not brought Him?”

46 The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this Man!”

47 Then the Pharisees answered them, “Are you also deceived? 48 Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him? 49 But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”

50 Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them, 51 “Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?”

52 They answered and said to him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”

An Adulteress Faces the Light of the World
53 And everyone went to his own house.

7 Después de esto, andaba Jesús por Galilea. No quería andar por Judea porque los judíos lo buscaban para matarlo. 2 Estaba próxima la fiesta de los Tabernáculos de los judíos. 3 Por tanto, le dijeron sus hermanos:

—Sal de aquí y vete a Judea para que también tus discípulos vean las obras que haces. 4 Porque nadie que procura darse a conocer hace algo en oculto. Puesto que haces estas cosas, manifiéstate al mundo.

5 Pues ni aun sus hermanos creían en él. 6 Entonces Jesús les dijo:

—Mi tiempo no ha llegado todavía pero el tiempo de ustedes siempre está a la mano. 7 El mundo no puede aborrecerlos a ustedes pero a mí me aborrece porque yo doy testimonio de él, que sus obras son malas. 8 Suban ustedes a la fiesta. Yo no subo todavía a esta fiesta porque mi tiempo aún no se ha cumplido.

9 Habiendo dicho esto, él se quedó en Galilea. 10 Pero cuando sus hermanos hubieron subido a la fiesta, entonces él también subió, no abiertamente sino en secreto. 11 Los judíos lo buscaban en la fiesta y decían:

—¿Dónde está aquel?

12 Había una gran murmuración acerca de él entre las multitudes. Unos decían: “Es bueno”. Pero otros decían: “No, sino que engaña a la gente”. 13 Sin embargo, nadie hablaba abiertamente de él por miedo de los judíos.

14 Cuando ya había pasado la mitad de la fiesta, subió Jesús al templo y enseñaba. 15 Entonces los judíos se asombraban diciendo:

—¿Cómo sabe este de letras sin haber estudiado?

16 Por tanto, Jesús les respondió y dijo:

—Mi doctrina no es mía sino de aquel que me envió. 17 Si alguien quiere hacer su voluntad, conocerá si mi doctrina proviene de Dios o si yo hablo por mi propia cuenta. 18 El que habla de sí mismo busca su propia gloria; pero el que busca la gloria del que lo envió, este es verdadero y en él no hay injusticia. 19 ¿No les dio Moisés la Ley? Y ninguno de ustedes la cumple. ¿Por qué buscan matarme?

20 La multitud respondió:

—Demonio tienes. ¿Quién busca matarte?

21 Jesús respondió y les dijo:

—Una sola obra hice, y todos se asombran. 22 Por esto Moisés les dio la circuncisión (no porque sea de Moisés sino de los padres), y en sábado circuncidan al hombre. 23 Si el hombre recibe la circuncisión en sábado a fin de que la ley de Moisés no sea quebrantada, ¿se enojan conmigo porque en sábado sané a un hombre por completo? 24 No juzguen según las apariencias sino juzguen con justo juicio.

¿Es Jesús el Cristo?
25 Decían entonces algunos de Jerusalén:

—¿No es este a quien buscan para matarle? 26 ¡He aquí, habla públicamente y no le dicen nada! ¿Será que los principales realmente han reconocido que él es el Cristo? 27 Pero este, sabemos de dónde es; pero cuando venga el Cristo nadie sabrá de dónde sea.

28 Entonces Jesús alzó la voz en el templo, enseñando y diciendo:

—A mí me conocen y saben de dónde soy. Y yo no he venido por mí mismo; más bien, el que me envió, a quien ustedes no conocen, es verdadero. 29 Yo lo conozco, porque de él provengo y él me envió.

30 Entonces procuraban prenderle, pero nadie puso su mano sobre él porque todavía no había llegado su hora. 31 Muchos del pueblo creyeron en él y decían: “Cuando venga el Cristo, ¿hará más señales que las que hizo este?”.

32 Los fariseos oyeron que la multitud murmuraba estas cosas acerca de él, y los principales sacerdotes y los fariseos enviaron guardias para tomarlo preso. 33 Entonces dijo Jesús:

—Todavía estaré con ustedes un poco de tiempo; luego iré al que me envió. 34 Me buscarán y no me hallarán, y a donde yo estaré ustedes no podrán ir.

35 Entonces los judíos se decían entre sí:

—¿A dónde se ha de ir este, que nosotros no lo hallemos? ¿Acaso ha de ir a la dispersión entre los griegos para enseñar a los griegos? 36 ¿Qué significa este dicho que dijo: “Me buscarán y no me hallarán, y no podrán ir a donde yo estaré”?

37 Pero en el último y gran día de la fiesta, Jesús se puso de pie y alzó la voz diciendo:

—Si alguno tiene sed, venga a mí y beba. 38 El que cree en mí, como dice la Escritura, ríos de agua viva correrán de su interior.

39 Esto dijo acerca del Espíritu que habían de recibir los que creyeran en él, pues todavía no había sido dado el Espíritu porque Jesús aún no había sido glorificado.

40 Entonces, cuando algunos de la multitud oyeron estas palabras, decían: “¡Verdaderamente, este es el profeta!” . 41 Otros decían: “Este es el Cristo”. Pero otros decían: “¿De Galilea habrá de venir el Cristo? 42 ¿No dice la Escritura que el Cristo vendrá de la descendencia de David y de la aldea de Belén, de donde era David ?”. 43 Así que había disensión entre la gente por causa de él. 44 Algunos de ellos querían tomarlo preso, pero ninguno le echó mano.

Las autoridades se oponen a Jesús
45 Luego los guardias regresaron a los principales sacerdotes y a los fariseos, y estos les dijeron:

—¿Por qué no lo trajeron?

46 Los guardias respondieron:

—¡Nunca habló hombre alguno así!

47 Entonces los fariseos les respondieron:

—¿Será posible que ustedes también hayan sido engañados? 48 ¿Habrá creído en él alguno de los principales o de los fariseos? 49 Pero esta gente que no conoce la ley es maldita.

50 Nicodemo, el que fue a Jesús al principio y que era uno de ellos, les dijo:

51 —¿Juzga nuestra ley a un hombre si primero no se le oye y se entiende qué hace?

52 Le respondieron y dijeron:

—¿Eres tú también de Galilea? Escudriña y ve que de Galilea no se levanta ningún profeta.

La mujer sorprendida en adulterio
53 [Y se fue cada uno a su casa.
