Salams, I am quite amazed that although the Moon could have been seen in the UK as far north as the Midlands on the 11th of August 2010 a section of the Ithna Asheri community has chosen to apply the rulings of Seyyed al-Sistani for times when the Moon cannot be seen and decided that the 13th of August was the 1st of Ramadhan. What an unfortunate date for such silliness, the sighting of the Crescent is a sign from Allah (swt) and accepting the word of other Muslims is the Sunnah of the Prophet. Is it right to use a backdoor when the front is wide open?
They ask thee concerning the New Moons. Say: They are but signs to mark fixed periods of time in (the affairs of) men, and for Pilgrimage. It is no virtue if ye enter your houses from the back: It is virtue if ye fear Allah. Enter houses through the proper doors: And fear Allah: That ye may prosper.
