Ike

Kathy,
Is Ike coming your way? I saw tonight on the news that it is headed for Texas.

Re: Ike

Yep! Right down our throat! As the crow flies, we are only about 45 miles from the coast...We are 45 miles from Victoria, Texas...
This morning it was actually predicted to cut right through the center of our county..since I am in Emergency Mgmt, guess who gets to "ride it out" if we call a mandatory evacuation? They are saying up to 100 mile per hour winds. Guess we just wait it out. The path has moved more North toward Galveston Island this evening.
This one gives me a really bad feeling, because the National Hurricane Center has basically no idea where landfall will be. Usually they have a pretty good idea by now.
I have already sent my son to my sister up by Waco. Not knowing where the Nursing Home would evacuate him drove me crazy. So he is with Karlan up by Waco.
My husband just got back from there. He took our miniature horses to her ranch. They are so little, I was afraid they would just blow away with a slight wind!
We will be ok, will let you know once it has gone over.
Thanks for asking!

Re: Re: Ike

Kathy,
Please be careful, if you are having to stay. It sounds really bad.
Take care.

Re: Re: Re: Ike

Susan,
The track has shifted to the East. Going into Galveston and Houston. Looks like we will only get 60 m/hr winds and less than 10" of rain.
Thanks!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Ike

My husband is addicted to watching the weather channel. We will be watching to see what happens. Hope that is all you get. What do 60 mile an hour winds do? Take care.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Ike

It is 9:30 pm on Friday night. The winds have just started here. We are supposed to be getting 70 mph gusts...think about driving down the road at 70 and sticking your face out the window!
Damage to mobile homes, down small or rotten trees, large tree limbs break, things left outside will be projectiles..etc. Not real bad, but bad enough for me!
I am at the Emergency Operations Office just waiting it out. Will probably be here until Sat afternoon. By then, hopefully it will have passes.

As Moose says, Life is Good!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Ike

From what I've seen this morning on TV it looks pretty bad. I can't imagine losing my home and everything. I hope everything is OK.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Ike

We were on the very West fringe of Ike. We had alot of wind and gusts, but nothing like the National Weather predicted, thank goodness! I stayed in the Emergency Operations office all night Friday night. By about 10 am Sat we realized we would not get the full force and were able to go home.
I just look at Houston and think that could have been us! How lucky we are....but pray for those that were in the path of Ike!!!

Kathy,
I am so glad you didn't get the brunt of the storm. Just heard tonight that another death has been added.
