I try not to think about that year...yes, there was a base jr. high. Here we had gone to Mtn. Home for 2 yrs for jr. high and were ready to go to high school....noooo...we had to, not only stay in Jr. High another year, but not get to go to town.
One time we were going to a game on the bus, but the principal called me to his office and told me that I could not go because I wore lipstick to school. Good grief!
Not a good year for me! I missed going to town.!!!
I was a Cheerleader during football season my 9th grade year....we were called the Blue Angels, the colors were blue and white. I remember it was actually the Football Team that picked the name...we played at Green Acres Field at the High School and I remember being so embarrassed about our name, especially when the High School kids heard us cheering ones such as: "Blue Angels, are you with us? Yeah, man." It was supposed to contrast with the Base 9th graders who were called the "Thunderbirds." (The guys thought that was very clever...named after 2 famous airshow groups.) I believe it was a very short-lived mascot name.
