I am the youngest daughter of the seventh child of Isaiah and Willie Rae Benbow. My mother was Claudia Roberta Keets she went home to be with the Lord in January of 1999. I have two older sisters Teresa Byrd of Elizabeth, N.J. and Shelly Keets of Plainfield ,N.J. My sisters and I are so looking forward to seeing all of our relatives at this years family reunion in Maryland. Yes, " Behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! " (Ps. 133:1).

Making corrections now. I will post once I've made corrections. Regarding Abraham's birthdate, he may have been born in 1855. Here is the info that we have:

According to the Census Records:
In 1870, his parents stated he was born in 1850
in 1880, he said he was born in 1856
in 1900, he said he was born in 1855
in 1910, he said he was born in 1856
in 1920, he said he was born in 1856
In 1930, he said he was born in 1843
According to his 1st marriage certificate, he was born in 1858 (he says he was 18 when first married on one census and was married in 1876).

I consulted with professional genealogists who said that it's best to rely on the birthdate from the first census because as people age, they tend to forget when they were born. In addition, former slaves often didn't know their birthdate. So, I went with 1850 for his birthday. Also, he has a sister who was born in 1855, and while Daphne may have had 2 babies in the same year, it's doubtful.

We were finally able to get on the web site. Before I give my comments I have a few corrections :

1. Abraham Reddick was borned December 1855 in Early County, Ga.
2. Etta Reddick died 1941, Jacksonville, Fl
3.Rebirda R. Reddick Means died January 26, 1995, Archer, Fl
4.Emma Reddick name is not seen in the history, she is the daughter of Abraham Reddick.
5.Henry Means name is not in the history, he was the child of Isaiah Means and Rebirda Reddick Means. He was borned 1930 and died November 2002.
6.Hathe Means is mispelled it should be Hettie Means Witherspoon.
7. Jannie Reddick is not in the history she is a decendant of Abraham (Abe) Reddick, She was his oldest
child.

This is great, my wife Jerri and I are looking forward to coming to Maryland colaberating with the family for such a wonderful and joyous occasion our family reunion. It is only by the grace of God that this family is blessed enough to plan on such a joyous event. May God continue to bless all until we meet in August 2008.

Hi Folks,

I'm a Reddick genealogist focusing upon the German-origins Reddicks of Georgia. Their surname has also been recorded as Radick, Raddick, Readick, Readdick, and a few more imaginative interpretations of the Soundex r320 sort of surname (Reddick, etc.). The first generation arrived in Savannah, GA in December of 1737 as the Radick family of Palatine Refugees.

Anyhow, I'm also the Co-Administrator of the Reddick / r320 DNA Surname Project. I see that there is an effort to have one of your Reddick males participate in our project. We already have an African-American Reddick with ancestry in the Sumter County (Americus, GA) area who has been tested. It would be really good to learn if your Alachua Co., FL descendants of Major Reddick are related to those Reddicks from Sumter Co., GA. For that all that is needed is a pair of cheek swabs from a male Reddick-surnamed descendant of Major Reddick. I myself and seven of my cousins have done this test. Another grouping of Reddick / r320 folks totaling thirteen in number match up as genetic cousins as a result of their DNA testing. We even have participants as far afield as from Australia and New Zealand in our overall Reddick / r320 project. So, I do hope that you will join us in our testing program.

Also, two sons of Major Reddick were named Nicholas and John Wesley Reddick. Nicholas Moses Reddick (born 1802) and John W. (Wesley?) Reddick (born 1804) were sons of Jacob Reddick (brother of my gggg-grandfather Nicholas Reddick) and originally from the eastern Georgia counties of Burke & Screven. Both NMR and JWR moved to southwest Georgia during the 1840s. Both were slave-holders with large plantations at the time of the 1860 census. I have to believe that there is something there in those names of Major Reddick's sons that represent a connection back to those slave-holding Reddick brothers born during the first decade of the 1800s in Burke and Screven Counties, GA.

Thank God for this website. I am looking forward to see and meet the Major Reddick descendants. I have heard about Major Reddick all my life but I never knew that I would have an opportunity to meet aand greet such a vast amount of relatives. The New Jersey experience(2002) was so wonderful. I still talk about it and I watch the video of that reunion from time to time. Since that time, we have had deaths and new births. Time passes on but God, still remains the same. He is still good.
