Hi, i am new to this forum so i hope i am posting a question in the right place. I have a 1937 Norton 16H and i am trying to remove the mag nano, the problem i have is removing the timing sprocket, the chain wont come off so apparently you need to take both sprockets and the chain off together. I can’t get a puller over the sprocket and i know it is keyed and tapered. Any advice would be much appriciated.
I've only ever had chains with a spring link (I think that certainly the later WD spares were always so) and it's much easier if the chain can be detached. It's then possible to use a small two-legged puller.
The WD manual shows a special "over-centre" lever. It doesn't lever against the casing (which will crack it) but hooks behind the sprocket and levers against the centre nut. I've never tried it, but the mechanical efficiency seems a little limited. If you have access to a gas torch and can heat a car / lorry tyre lever to bend it back on itself, it would probably do the job.

Thanks Rik, i might resort to cutting the chain and getting a new chain or a split link. I am going to persivere for a while i did wonder whether to use a blow torch to heat it up but a bit worried about damage to other parts. Thanks again.
If it's an engine that has seen some miles or of unknown origin then I think that splitting the chain would be the best option. I bought a small German puller in a green box. I've forgotten the name but it went straight on. Most small two-leg pullers would fit, but you may have to do a bit of grinding. There isn't all that much room.
Update, bought a £5 puller off eBay delivered in 2 days 30 seconds cog off. Happy ending. Thanks for your help. I am sure i will be seeking further advice soon. Great forum.
