Dayton 3s

IM almost done !! The initial listen to was exciting to say the least.. (they sound really good and they arent fully assembled.. Im definetly a newbie at this !! Never build a speaker before, Im just wondering how important the impedence rating (ohms) between amp and speaker will be ? What are the do's and donts ? My older Pioneer reciver died recently,.. says 8 ohms on the speakers that came with it.. I used this amp to listen to the dayton 3s .. Could this have caused my reciever to croak ? ( It was pretty old) .. What should I be carefull of with the new honeys ??? I dont understand the inpedence ratings importance... Please break it to me gently ! LOL.. Thanks in advance
Scott..

I know they are supposed to match, what about buying a new reciver ? 4 Ohms ? Here lies my confusion....
