No reason not to... Baltic Birch is a bit lighter, very stiff and strong, and dosen't make that nasty MDF dust. I prefer it myself...

That last reason alone is probably worth using it! The veneered type is great, but a bit more hassle to make decent looking joints... so most beginners avoid it and perhaps veneer the box after construction.

Since you have some experience and skills, it would save you the step... unless you prefer one of the nice exotics instead.
